WWII.  This is the final punishment.

Yep, all coaches fault  /sarcasm/

No playcaller out there can do any more than he's doing, but ok, his fault the $40M qb can't hit a wide open guy, makes perfect sense

Quote from: MrGap92 on November 10, 2024, 10:58:04 AMHow is completely wide open receivers, many of which are fairly short yardage bad calls? Any decent QB can make these and the play is made.

If we had a real QB Daboll would not be getting called out for his playcalling

I agree with you guys fully on this.

But I also agree Daboll goes away from things that work. That is the issue with the play calling. Not feeding Tracy in 2nd and 5 type stuff when he clearly is in a groove. Not going to the TE nearly enough all year. Not going back to Hyatt for a long time after he creates something on the 1st play of the game. Calling trick plays when we can't even get easy 1st downs.

Daboll can be both (a good play caller - maybe he is)...but he also can be challenged by not being able to convert and create consistent rythym

It's not a zero sum game.
Jones is done, not close to good enough, to me that's a given.
But in the context of that particular third and one, it was a bad play call.

Quote from: Stringer Bell on November 10, 2024, 11:02:48 AMBecause all you need is 1 yard and have a dynamic RB who has been playing extremely well. What's so hard to understand about running the ball on 3rd and 1 when you have a good RB and a terrible QB?

For all the bitching about DJ, I don't understand why we'd prefer the ball in his hands vs Tracy's.
Doesn't make it a bad play call. Tracy has been good but he also got stuffed on a run for a loss too.

We can second-guess all day long. Thr fact remains that TWO receivers had at least 3 yards of clear space BOTH in Jones's field of vision and he didn't pull thr trigger.

There was absolutely nothing wrong with that play call.

Your point is one of a different universe .... Stop trying to change what is "reality"

What we all saw with our very own eyes is a pkaycall that effectively worked the way it was supposed too.... With one failure in it .... The QB

Yea yea you could run the one yard ..... but as good as Tracy has been he has also been stuffed behind the line from time to time

Even then we are speaking in an alternate universe ... the play call happened and it WORKED ... that's the only FACT in all this what-ifs

Quote from: DaveBrown74 on November 10, 2024, 10:58:17 AMIf the point is that the coach is calling plays that require an NFL QB making $40mm a year to be able to throw the ball to an open guy 25 yards away, then ok I guess.

You can't win calling only screens, checkdowns, 6 yard stick routes, and bubble screen type plays. Are we playing to win, or are we playing to get Jones as many 4 yard completions as possible?

Excellent point. Fully agree

I really need to see how PFF graded Jones this half before deciding if he's the guy or not.....

Everything will get better with a real QB.  We will be able to see that yeah the Run D needs a guy or 2, but by and large there are going to be dogs at various places on this roster.  We have to play Jones the rest of the way to guarantee the highest possible draft pick.

Quote from: kingm56 on November 10, 2024, 10:56:49 AMI know; I was being sarcastic.  That was a quote from a poster this offseason.  If you couldn't tell exactly what DJ was years ago, I don't know what to tell you.

Gotcha. Sorry for my response. I just can't take any more of this inept bs.

Is this team seemingly ever prepared to play?  Jones is an unmitigated disaster but the coach doesn't get absolved when things are so bad across the board.

They talk about this like Tracy is guaranteed to get the yard, like it is an unquestionable guarantee, like cmon

If it was potential 4 down territory (I don't remember exactly where we were on the field) then I would disagree on the point about Tracy being stuffed on 3rd down

Funny, because I never posted any such guarantee.

Honest question. Forget about that specific play. On any given play, who would you trust more to do their job, DJ or Tracy? Please give your honest answer.
