I'm not sure if I asked or mentioned a while back about being interested in buying a 4K TV. We did make the leap and I have to say the picture quality is dramatic. Even watching shows that are normal broadcasts, the images stand out and when a show is being broadcast in 4K it is almost like watching it live. Football, and all sports, seem really special.

My biggest problem is getting this 'smart' TV to work the way I would like it to. I thought you would just unpack it, plug it in, hook up your cable or whatever feeds it and you are off---WRONG. That way it is dumb and it wants to be smart. I think I've gotten most of the kinks out, at least for my viewing, but the darn thing can do so much and I don't have a clue as to how to help it along.

But again, the picture quality is really so much better than any other level of TV out there now.
I HATE TO INCLUDE THE WORD NASTY< BUT THAT IS PART OF BEING A WINNING FOOTBALL TEAM.

Which one did you get and what size? How much was it? What was so difficult about getting it set up?

Everything is smart these days. When I bought my new car, I had to learn how to drive all over again even though I've been driving for 60 years...even more if you include the farm tractor and my dad's old pickup to go to the fields. It's like a computer on wheels telling me that the car ahead have me has left, there is potential ice on the road, or a hundred other things. I do like that I can say, "Call Ben", and the phone is ringing and we talk back and forth like we're in the same room. And I've gotten where I actually like the "driver assist" software that takes over staying in the lane whether my hands are on the wheel or not. Regardless, smart cars, smartphones, smart TVs, smart everything that is electronic these days. I miss the days of sticking a key in the ignition and driving off...even when the car has a standard transmission and the dimmer switch is on the floor. However, I'm glad drum brakes have been replaced with disc, and fuel injection sure beats the old carburetor. Bottom line: it might take awhile Lenn, but you'll get there and probably like it after a few weeks of pulling your hair out and yelling at the TV (which is probably listening to you...LOL), and it probably has a button on the remote that looks like a microphone so push it and tell the tv where you want to go and it usually gets there
The fact that Keith Richards has outlived Richard Simmons, sure makes me question this whole, "healthy eating and exercise" thing

I was only able to buy what everyone would consider a 'small' TV as I have a wall unit and the TV has to go in that. So we settled for a Samsung 32" model which, believe it or not, cost more than larger ones. I believe we paid about $400 thru Amazon. Most TV outlets have the same TV for about the same price, we just used Amazon because they gave me a longer window to return it if we didn't like it.

As for why 'smart' was so much trouble? I use a sound bar with my TVs as I am hard of hearing. I am still trying to figure out how to hook that up. Also, there are no connections if you want to hook up an older DVD player and forget a VCR. There are no RCA jacks to hook any of those up.

I always used a Fire Stick on all my TVS, smart TVs don't really need that, but I bought a 4K Fire Stick to use and thought I had it hooked up correctly. But it is so hard to get to it. I would assume anyone with good knowledge of smartphones and all of that would probably breeze thru the setup, I,  who may be the dumbest on those things, am still trying to figure some things out. I use Alexa in my house, and the TV can go thru that, but I haven't figured that out just yet. When my son comes over most of these things will be cleared up, but for now, I am enjoying 4K TV.
Just a note, most over-the-air TV isn't broadcast in 4K but a lot of the subscription channels are. You really can notice the difference as soon as you sit down to watch.

I see and I understand the issues with Rocu or without it. Its crazy what I have to do to get to YouTube TV on a Samsung. We have 5 TV's and the one that has the Apple TV Remote is the best. I turn it on from that remote and all the apps appear for every streaming service, including YouTube, NFL+, all my iphone photos, and I can mirror my iphone to the TV and use it like my phone. All on one screen.

I think you know that you can CC from each individual streaming service. I use it too with some services if I'm watching later in the evening with the sound low.

I bought a VCR player recently for Linda's mom's TV to hook up to her smart TV. They are very inexpensive now. I think it was less than 100 bucks.

On the TV I just bought there are no RCA jacks just USB ports and I don't know of any VCR that uses USB. I fully understand VCRs and DVDs are, or will be, a thing of the past, but we still have things we would like to watch and now cannot.

And, as you said, I probably don't need the Fire Stick anymore as when I open the TV, all these apps and sites are right there.
Again, it is just a bit overwhelming for my limited knowledge of these things.

But, if anyone is thinking of replacing a TV, I would HIGHLY recommend getting a 4K TV.

Sports broadcasting 4k are awesome...most regular programming is not broadcast in 4k. Internet feeds are more likely to have 4k content. That can be watched through an app (streaming) ..... although 4k tvs will always "upscale" regular cable programming....over the antennas will provide 4k broadcasts as well.

Len,

Do a search for "rca to hdmi" to find a converter.
