For most of the offseason DJ has been pretty much an afterthought.  He often isn't even on lists of veteran free agents.  I was listening to Movin' the Chains radio show on NFL radio, and this morning, and I heard multiple teams have interest in him.

The Vikings- To be the replacement for Sam Darnold, backing up JJ (or starting for JJ if he isn't ready, as he is still rehabing from surgery).

The Browns

The Colts- To be veteran competition for Richardson

Not altogether surprised as he offers what is likely to be a cheap contract and a lot of experience.

A lot of experience at stinking.  I'm not surprised teams are going to be interested because look at the state of backup QBs in the league these days.  Even half the starters are lousy.  So yea as a backup he's right in the middle of the pack but that doesn't somehow make him good at football all of a sudden when we've had 6 years of evidence to suggest that he's not.

The Vikings should hold on to him and he should stay there if he can be that guy. I would stay far away from Indy.

Why is that?  I thought this might not be a bad landing spot for DJ.  They have a reasonably good line and roster of receivers.   Richardson seems to be trending toward bust.   I appreciate that DJ would be handicapped in competition (because the team still wants Richardson to work out), but it seems like an okay place to play QB.

That said, I tend to agree that the Vikings is likely his best place to be.  There, he has an HC who believes in him and will be very supportive of him and there is a great QB environment in terms of protection and targets.  The only downside of the Vikings is if JJ is healthy and ready, he will be the starter.

Interesting that the Vikings haven't signed him after all the hoopla of him going there in the first place to never even dress for a game. It's weird that Zach Wilson is getting as much press as Jones.

Why would DJ limit his options like that?

I can't help but feel if DJ came from another team, he would be pretty high on the bridge QB list.

No way. The one thing these bridge QBs we speak about can do (which jones can't) is work well in pressure (ie the 2 minute drill).

Intangibles matter. He doesn't really have them unfortunately

Anthony Richardson was drafted way too high, and he was not ready to start in this league with the limited College experience he had. Instead of properly establishing a program to develop him, they threw him out there. He's still not ready to start, but now HC Stichen is saying he wants competition for Richardson to drive him to more consistency. It's more idiotic BS. Do ya think it's meddling by the owner?

Remember the conversations we have had here about QBs coming into the league and falling into the right situation? That would be a bad place for DJ. He's in a good place right now, even if he just starts a few games before JJ becomes the eventual starter, and he would be a great mentor to JJ. Someday, he will get another shot. He needs stability right now.

I don't think I suggested otherwise in my post.

I am not a believer in Daniel Jones although I have tried long and hard to not admit it. Convinced as I was that Mara-crony, Dave (Bloviating Anachronism) Gettleman for reasons no longer worth discussing would Draft DJ with his No.6 pick in the 2019 Draft, I began preparing.

Pleased that he had the size and appearance of an Eli, I studied all of his available Duke game tapes and began to rationalize every incomplete pass, sack, and turnover as someone else's fault- Receivers/Oline. And when so many media scout types began suggesting that DJ wasn't worth such a high pick, I figured so what? They (not including Ed Vette) said much the same about the Bills moving up for Josh Allen.

And so now, following 6 seasons with Our Heros in the NFL, what was my ROR, my Return on Rationalization? How about one kick in the cujones winning season sandwiched between 12-23 W/L and 11 injured games missed and 3-13 W/L and 11 more games missed. Oh, the cost and subsequent misery which has attended the 2022 season. If only we could have had a do-over.

Even if I don't expect Darnold to regress toward the mean, I am not buying stock in Daniel Jones, new team, new HC, futures or otherwise.

Cheers!

I wonder what happened to the rest of the many teams apparently fighting for Jones services mid season? Allegedly he had 10-12 teams interested with multiple starting jobs offered.

If he did, he wouldn't have taken a 3rd string practice squad gig.
