As the initial free agent frenzy reduces I thought I'd take stock of where we are.

QB - the elephant is yet to enter the room; unlikely to be Rodgers

RB - no change, room for improvement

WR - surprisingly no change which is a positive, room for improvement

TE - no change, room for improvement

OL - slightly better depth but 1 or 2 quality starters still needed

Edge - depends on use of Gholston, need a true 3rd OLB

DL - slight improvement but need a new high end starter next to Dex

LB - no change, room for improvement

DB - big improvements but depth still an issue at outside CB

ST - K remains a worry & more work to do on coverage teams (maybe Summers or Adams comes back to add to Broad)

For me we have only really moved the needle at DB so far but have made small incremental gains on both lines.

Great summary.  I agree with it all.  I truly winder if our OL addition really brings quality depth meaning or is just another body who plays badly when inserted in.  We need two starters or at least a RT who can move JE in to RG.

As far as RB, I think we need to add another quality RB to create an effective 2 back system.  Prefer a home run hitter to be another tool for a QB.

WR is where I differ versus others.  Outside of Nabers, I do not think we have another downfield consistent threat.  Hyatt cant get in the field.  Slayton is inconsistent with drops and Robinson is 4 yards then goes down.

I hope Theo Johnson has more to offer than what we've seen so far.  I'd like to see him more involved.  He needs to be a 60 catch for 700 yards and 5 TDs type producer for us.  Maybe another QB brings that out of him.

I do believe we will get the leftovers of Ward, Hunter and Carter at 3 which is not a bad place to be however if it is not Ward then in round 2 or 3, BPA goes out the window and it becomes 100% about getting a QB if we dont sign a starter in FA.

A cold slap in the face. Ojulari wasn't signed by another team, so maybe they work something out? I hope they aren't relying on Neal to man the RG position. I have to wonder if the status of Schoen and Daboll have kept top FAs away.

It astounds me that a professional team can be in this situation with only Tommy DeVito as a signed QB on this team.  That alone is managerial malfeasance.  Sign a damn QB we can be at least a kittle excited about.

Also think about adopting the Mike McDaniels approach to getting offensive skill position players.  Get SPEED everywhere.

Pending the QB addition, the Giants essentially added nothing on offense, but significantly improved the defense.

Agreed, the fact that Banks in itself is now CB2 and we upgraded CB1 (Although we are not sure by how much just yet) and updated Safety is honestly a pretty considerable upgrade since secondary was our main weakness. I liked Pinnock but we got an upgrade there that I wasn't expecting

My only weakness remaining is who plays next to sexy Dexy ... we added depth but still would like a solid starter next to him

The D-line draft class is loaded and deep.  The Giants should be getting a D-lineman in the draft.

If we get Rogers or Wilson and miss out on Ward or Sanders ... Im all in on Mason Graham .... maybe we can trade back few spots still get him... maybe get another second ... package it trade back up to 1st and get Dart

The way Philadelphia transformed Bechton to Guard gives me hope Neal can do the same

There has been no significant additions to an offense that scored 15 pts/game last year.

That's because our QB play was bottom barrel. Watch what happens with same weapons and a good QB like Wilson or Rodgers.

Good job, Neil. While pausing to review current status to include tactics to date, it's hard to not wonder if there is a discernable strategy involved? All I see so far, no matter who is/are chosen for QB1/QB2 today, tomorrow, 6-weeks from now is a strategy rooted in realism without any hint of a "Save My Job" Hail Mary.

Rather, I get the impression that, while hoping for a notable improvement in overall team performance, the strategic focus is far more on the next 2 years and the future beyond. The single biggest factor being a husbanding of resources so to be able to then add the sort of talent needed to go from long term losers to legitimate and consistent contenders. While I am hoping/ expecting better QB play this season, we may not and probably won't know for sure who our QB of the future is or will be. Of course, until it is, the future will be just that.

Perhaps, that's just me thinking more positively than some others about the relatively modest FA activity so far and before the Draft while wondering; are we ever going to get lucky?

Cheers!

The real question is a QB away from what? A league average offense? Quite possibly. A top-10 offense? No, I don't think that's in the cards even with the rosiest of glasses.

We wqill not be getting 2 quality OL starters . That has passed in FA so far. Can they get it in thev draft , who knows . They probably will not draft an OL in the 1st or 2nd round. With Thomas healthy, the OL played pretty well. You do not need ALL Pros at every position . You need an OL that works in harmony where every one of the 5 know exactly what the other 4 are doing every moment.

The offense should be better because our QB will be better and hopefully Tracey and Johnson will also.

Let's wait until the draft and see who we drafted.
