A peculiar #1 draft pick who wasn't expected to become the #1 back. But someone forgot to tell Tiki Barber who began his ascent as one of the best RBs in the league.

The Giants' offensive line had a particularly good season as well in protecting Kerry Collins who had a remarkable campaign.

It was the first steps of their NFC Championship season. Great memories!

Duane's heisman turned out to be a product of the Badger offense. Not the worst RB but not worth the pick. We could have had Shaun Alexander, a much better player.

Not exactly true. I suspect I am the only poster here that has seen every Badgers game over the past 40 years.

Yes he had a great line but that wasn't the reason why he was great in college. He was impossible to bring down with just enough speed to score from 70 yards out.

He had a good rookie season with the Giants but when Barber stepped up his game all of a sudden Fassel had no use for him. First he insisted that Dayne show up to camp 20 pounds lighter than he was when he won the Heisman and when he did Fassel refused to use him electing to give all the carries to Barber. What coach intentionally ices a first round pick instead of trading him. Pure stupidity. Sadly it soured Dayne on the NFL and he was never the same. With the right franchise I'm convinced he has a Jerome Bettis type career.

It's funny, he seemed exactly the opposite with the Giants as you know. Just diving into the line for two yards over and over. If that was weight related, that makes sense but he played enough to show his value. Point is, I blame him more than Fassel.

Never liked him as a Pro.  Never saw a guy his size get tackled with ease by CBs weighing 40 pounds less.  Could get knocked off his feet so easily.  Expected him to run like Brandon Jacobs - hard and tough to bring down.  I remember seeing an interview of him in the lockerroom without his jersey on.  He had man boobs.
