I'd like to erase the past 13 seasons please.

The DeSean Jackson punt return was Deja vu. I had to re-live that Westbrook pain all over again.

2003 was a goat-roprle of a season anyway. The real pain that year was the Monday Night game when Bill Parcells, dressed as a Cowboy, marched into Giants Stadium and frustrated the home team all game. Then, in the final minute, Kerry Collins leads the team on an inspirational go ahead scoring drive, and the Giants were going to take the game away from Big Bill.

So, all the team has to do is kick the ball off into the end zone and don't let Dallas get a big play. Pretty easy, right?

Matt Bryant, a kicker who became one of the top 10 all time scorers in NFL history, kicks off and flubs the kick out of bounds, and Dallas gets the ball on the 40; great job, Matt!

Less than 30 seconds left, Quincy Carter has no timeouts and the Gisnts have to guard the sidelines to keep the clock running. So, Quincy not only dances around in the backfield to buy time, but hits his receiver on the sideline, makes the catch and goes out of bounds with a handful of seconds remaining.

The Cowboys' kicker trots onto the field, spots his holder on the 40, and calmly drills a 50 harder, as time expires, to steal back the game the Giants stole from them. Parcells is on his glory and, I can't vouch for the rest of you, but I was fuming after that loss. Not only because of Parcells, though I admired the fact he was king of winning those type of games, but the fact that the Giants lost because they were undisciplined, unprepared and looked like a bunch of clueless idiots out there when the game needed to be put away, yet they failed miserably in doing so. In essence, it was as if they hadn't learned their lesson from the 2002 Wild Card game.

After this loss, I had a premonition that 2003 was going to be a bad season and players and coaches would be fired before the season was over.

Westbrook's game winning TD on that inexcusable punt by Feagles, in the middle of the field, was the reinforcement of that premonition coming true.

By the time Bruce Smith knocked Kerry Collins out for the rest of the season, it was clear then that the end had arrived for Gentleman Jim's regime.

That was a dark year, for certain.

Peace!

Quote from: LennG on March 19, 2025, 06:49:18 PMI never really found "the fumble" as a worst moment as we were a bad team then also.

What really gets to me are the games we lost when we had a chance to win a championship.

My #1, the Flipper Anderson game where he caught the winning td in overtime. Terrible call on Collins to set that up. I still cringe just thinking about, what if?

The playoff loss to the Niners when we had that huge lead.

The loss to the clueless Dennis Green and his Vikings, again in the playoffs.

Losing SB 35 to the Ravens. They may well have been the better team but Fassell came in and had a horrible game plan. Played scared.

I could go on but that's a start.

I'm with you Lenn.

The two moments that BURN in my psyche are the Flipper Anderson Walk (run) off into the tunnel I believe that was '89 season playoffs of '90 and the absolute meltdown at home vs Vick and the way Desean Jackson rubbed it in with that punt return. BOTH games were at home which made it worse for me.
From Simms to Eli (with an assist from Hoss) our Super Bowl Quarterbacks. Great defense and clutch QB performances...NY Giants Championship football.

I have an old profile still floating around: andrew_nyg....I am one and the same!

Probably already mentioned, but the Matt Dodge punt, sealing the comeback with the DeSean Jackson return.

President Rick

let's go way back to the first time things went bad....Dec. 28, 1958, Alan Ameche for the OT TD that gave the colts the championship over the Giants.  I was a very little kid.  All the guys wanted to be Johnny Unitas.  But I still wanted to be Frank Gifford.  Go Giants!!!

Giants are 11-4 heading into the final game of the season vs the 11-4 Cowboys playing for the East and home field advantage in the playoffs

Giants down 0-13 at half

Giants pick up 7
Then a field goal
And are down 10-13 deep into 4th

Giants are 3 and 2 from the 3 yard line
2yards for the 1st
3yards for the TD

Mark Jackson is in the slot
Simms reads blitz

Snap
Simms hits Jackson on the inside rear shoulder .  That SoB never looked, never read the blitz or he was the hot read.  Reeves hand picked FA brought in from Denver chocked and cost us the go ahead score in the final minute.

4th and 2 Treadwil hits hamstring FG

13-13 in OT

With a dislocated shoulder Smith continues pound out yards , Dallas kicks winning FG

Dallas win east
Dallas gets home field advantage
Giants go 1-1 in playoffs

Dallas wins first Super Bowl

Simms gets cut over off season

I still can't stand Jackson for not paying attention to Simms presnap and completely chocking on that play

The biggest problem is that subsequent to this play Jackson didn't get absolutely destroyed while cutting across the middle while looking away. Blindsided from 30 yards away, flags flying, subsequent fines, and him being told while looking up at the sky that was for the TD dance tease.

The one thing about the 1989 Divisional Playoff was, despite the heartbreaking loss, Parcells and his guys rallied the following year, went into Anaheim Stadium and took care of business with John Robinson's Rams, 31-10, if I remember. That killer secondary of Guyton and Jackson knocked the daylights of Henry Ellard and their over-celebratory tight end, Pete Holohan (NOTE: believe he grew up in upstate New York near Syracuse ... Liverpool, I believe). Cleveland Gary was completely shut down as well. The Rams had that one coming to them and retribution was sweet.

As far as any of the crazy Iggles games, it sickens me to no end that this Giants' organization doesn't make it their sole purpose in life to build a team and scheme for no other reason than to gain retribution for all the crap they've taken from the Iggles over the last 20 years or so. I simply cannot understand them at all. The fact the Giants have not been competitive at all when the games have counted the most against them. They're supposed to be their rivals, for crying out loud!!!

Peace!

Jolly Blue Giant

Probably too many to count, but 2002 playoff loss to the 49rs with the last minute bad calls by the refs to hand a victory to the niners. Even the refs had to admit the calls were dead wrong, and the Giants would have almost assuredly gone on to win the game. I went ballistic and fumed for weeks https://nypost.com/2003/01/07/its-official-the-giants-were-robbed-nfl-says-playoff-refs-got-it-wrong/

I'm pretty calm by nature, and it takes a lot for me to lose it and fume over a game, but that game hit the nerve just right

The fact that Keith Richards has outlived Richard Simmons, sure makes me question this whole, "healthy eating and exercise" thing

Chris

I have talking about that one play for so many years now. Mark Jackson, in my opinion, kept us from going home field advantage thru out the playoffs and a great shot you get to the
SB. He never looked at Simms. Simply unbelievable.
I HATE TO INCLUDE THE WORD NASTY< BUT THAT IS PART OF BEING A WINNING FOOTBALL TEAM.
