I wonder if the Giants pick Carter it would be an indication the Giants are not real interested in resigning Thibs after his rookie contract ends?

That could be a possible outcome should Carter fall to #3, but I really don't see Thibs factoring into any decision on Carter. I think if they draft him it's because they think he's a phenomenal talent and can't miss prospect.

Arguably 1 or 1a in this draft with Hunter..Graham very close. Mayhem might be an understatement with Carter. The foot apparently will not get surgery..but is a slight worry. And let's be honest..do we have faith in the Giants medical eval skills? .

Put it this way.,he's no Cedric One Eye Jones..haha..and hopefully is good to go.

I've been the one person on this board hesitating about Carter because from what I've seen of him he is an exclusive go around his blocker rather than also through him.  Also I have not seen a 3 down motor.  Happy to be wrong with him if we get him.

Jclayton92

I'd draft him and put him next to Okereke year 1 as mike #2, and on 3rd down move Burns up to Chatmans spot, and move Carter to the outside.

    Chatman, Lawrence, Golson
Thibodeaux, Carter, Okereke, Burns

Could be one of the best front 7s in the NFL.

Joe,

Carters #1 on my board and could be the missing pieces to a dominate DL. Still, I acknowledge your acumen, as it relates to college football - I'm going to have another look.  Who's your preferred pick at #3?

Matt - that is the million dollar question.  At 3, I see the following:

Travis Hunter - seems like a freak.  He has not run yet.  I love that he's a country, quiet kid.  Do not see him as a NYC bright lights strip club kid.  Think he has his head screwed on right.  He may not be the best WR or CB in this class but if he's say #2 in both, that still solves and offensive and defensive problem for the Giants.

Abdul Carter - if everyone else except me is right, he's an edge warrior who will be better immediately than Burns or Thibs.  Penn State lined him up everywhere, right, left, MLB and he blitzed from all those spots.  One thing he does really well IMHO is when he is blitzing from the middle, he sometimes hesitates for a split second to see how the blocking is lining up then attacks the best hole.  I also like his play speed.  I don't care what he runs the 40 at, he plays fast.  Again, my concerns is that I don't see him exploding into blockers with strength, but going around or spinning.  I'd like to see more power into blockers.  Also, I know I saw him take plays off.  He's not a loafer but on plays going away from him, he does not always give 100% full chase.

Mason Graham - I've seen more than Hunter and Carter.  He is just so damn sound.  One NFL scout said he never saw him lose a matchup on a play against an opponent.  He may not be the one tackling but because he beats his man so often it means that others have to focus on him to help his blocker out so others may make the play.  He's a foundational piece.  He and Kenneth Grant held both Ohio State and Alabama to near season low numbers in rushing.  I love this guy.

Will Johnson - WJ played hurt in 2024.  Missed like 6 games.  He still managed two pick 6s in 2024 plus a QB rating when thrown at of only 39.6.  Those are Pro Bowl type numbers.  He has been a starter since his first year.  He's shut down OSU's vaunted WRs like Jeremiah Smith this year and Marvin Harrison Jr, last year.  I think he's bulletproof.

I trust 3 of the 4 fully and think even if Carter is what I say he is, he still offers fantastic ability to go around blockers and where to blitz so I am probably fine with him.

I'd like one of these four and am probably indifferent.

He is the absolutely perfect replacement for the oft-injured Ojulari. IMO
If Jeff Hostetler could do it, Daniel Jones can do it !!!

Everybody and I mean everybody thought Chase Young was the next great pass rusher anointed by everyone.  I saw in him what I fear in Carter.  I like him but I have this gut feeling.  I hope I am wrong because I like Penn St pass rushers.

In my opinion which is worth or worthless, Mason Graham could be the missing piece to a dominent DL. My good friend;'s son who is a major financial supporter Of Michigan football, ( flies to every game , and on occasion runs out with the team and has become good friends with Harbaugh ) says that Graham could have the same impact on a defense that Hutchinson does .

I am seeing a good edge rusher, but I am not seeing a generational talent.

Phil: Gut feelings happen. I have never gotten the "vibes" from Carter that I got from Micah Parsons.

Despite the fact (IMO) that they are two very different players, that point is actually irrelevant.

Nevertheless, the production was there, and Carter can do his "magic" when lining up at almost any spot on the field. He is more versatile than Thibodeaux, and that's a fact. Importantly, Carter does well from the Ojulari side of the defense, so adding hm would not in any way be redundant. All three guys (Thibodeaux, Carter and Burns) can be starters simultaneously, without "wasting" the talents of any of them. The odd man out COULD turn out to be Okereke or McFadden, but IMO it won't be any of the other three should the Giants draft Carter.

What are yor thoughts about Mason Graham ?

I haven't done much work on him because I didn't think he was a realistic target for NYG.  I will try and see some of his tape and let you know.
