Wow, Scott Brunner is 68, hardly seems possible until I think to myself that I'm going to be 68 in a few weeks.

I remember that Chargers game..Brunner had some moments and won a playoff game against the Eagles. Remember Leon Bright?  Omg..I'm really old..that's was almost a half century ago.  :what:

Neon Leon. As a punt returner he refused to fair catch.

Wasn't he the guy who got laid out in a game, basically never to be seen again?

Wasn't Brunner the QB when we made the playoffs in 1980 something, and maybe for the last time, we beat the Eagles in a big game.

1981 Lenn..played fairly well in Simms absense that year.. then strike season where they lost playoff hope to the Cards and Neil Lomax in the last minute.."the back spasms game".and then 83, when the roof caved in on the team and it got ugly..he was gone..

It was a Thanksgiving day game vs Lions either '81 or '82.  I was picking up my wife's Aunt and Uncle at Irvington NY train station and when I got into the house my wife told me about the hit and she thought for a second he was dead. Neon Leon

Scott Brunner was a terrific college QB at Delaware and with the Giants he was a very decent player with a quick, unusual release and a knack for the big play. He lacked Simms' arm, leadership, and intensity.

Yeah, was that the day we went down to Philly as underdogs and jumped out to a big lead and hung on?  They screwed up a kickoff return and (maybe) Mark Haynes recovered in the end zone?

The "Ichabod Crane" of quarterbacks, I believe he was referred to as.

I always liked Scott because he was a good change-up for defenses whenever Phil Simms got hurt. But, as all good things have their limits, so too did Scott's effectiveness end in 1983. But that team had so many injuries that it was a lost cause.

The Chargers' game was ironically his biggest stats performance; however, it was his final passing attempt that will forever live in infamy as, at the point he was getting ready to toss the game-tying TD pass, the ball slipped out of his hand and the Chargers recovered. Just a stunning ending to what was a crazy, barn-burning game going toe-to-toe with Air Coryell.

Scott ended up with the Broncos in 1984, I believe, before finishing his career with the Cardinals.

Still, how can we forget the fact he more than held his own in the final games of the 1981 season which he helped lead the Giants out of the original Wilderness Years and into the playoffs for the first time in 18 years? He's a Giant of a player from my youth and will always hold him in high regard.

Peace!
