After years of marching lock step and holding joint pressers, it appears that Schoen and Daboll are not operating quite so closely

Pat points to the separate (rather than the usual joint) pressers by Schoen and Daboll after Mara's post-season comments.

He points to the complete absence of Daboll at the Pro Days in contrast to last season.

Further, he reports:

QuoteGradually, however, that dynamic has shifted to the point that Schoen and Daboll now more than ever are working as separate entities, sources say.

AND

QuoteSome sources have said, in fact, that there was some hope on the front office/personnel side of having the opportunity to reset with a new coaching staff after the Giants' 3-14 season. But with Daboll retained, a once mutual marriage now feels more like a forced one.

That's a fair point, Ceri.  Although at least Pat isn't one of the beat reporters that act as NYG mouthpieces or is afraid of Pat Hanlon and won't report things as they really are.

He may drum it up a bit and sometimes exaggerate but I wouldn't be surprised if the dynamic has changed a bit. Keep in mind they are looking to switch things up to supposedly make improvements on how they do everything right now after the Mara mandate.

If you live your life as a pessimist you never really live your life at all.

I know everyone likes to kick Pat Leonard around, so I'll be one to defend him. The one thing I'll say about him is that he has no issue asking tough, uncomfortable, but good questions directly to the Giants' GMs, head coaches, and Mara. I do like that about him. Some of these beat guys are too scared to ask anything controversial, or if they do they back down quickly when given a gruff but evasive answer. Leonard at least pushes the issue if the recipient of the question is acting evasive. That's more than I can say for some of these guys.

I agree. Pat was the same on the Rangers beat, hence Torts' "stop coaching, Pat" line.

I like him.
