Quote from: MrGap92 on October 10, 2024, 01:22:06 PMThis is shaping up to be an extremely strong draft by Schoen.

Nabers, Nubin, Phillips, Tracy all strong picks (thus far) Muasau looked alright in Week 1 I guess too, just not alot of opportunities at LB with Okereke and McFadden here. Theo is starting and has potential, Jones just needs to look his way more. Chatman UDFA also has some potential.

Alot of like about 2024s rookie class.

2007 was the year we lost an all star RB in Tiki Barber (he was way more productive career wise than Saquon). All Giant fans were in shock and many thought the O would bomb without him.

Jerry Reese proceeded to have one of the better all time Giant drafts with 4-5 guys being strong contributors to a Super Bowl that season as rookies after an 1-2 start.

-He drafted a very savvy and pro ready receiver and pro ready DB in round 1-2. (Ross/Steve Smith)
-He drafted a TE and a RB who ended up becoming quite reliable in the later rounds (Ahmad Bradshaw/Kevin Boss)

Notice any similarities developing? (sans maybe a Super Bowl run but everything else!)

Big Blue Huddle / Re: Daniel Jones stats pace

Quote from: shadowspinner0 on October 08, 2024, 04:08:59 PMAs of now Daniel Jones has:

1,138 Passing Yards (227.6 YPG), 6 TD's 3 INT's, 61.3 QBR

108 Rushing Yards (21.6 YPG), 3.2 YPC, 0 TD's

As of today, he's passing for his second highest yards per game total (232.8 his rookie year) but his rushing numbers are much lower despite similar attempts per game.

So going by todays numbers, he's on pace for 3,869 passing yards, 20 Touchdowns and 10 interceptions with 367 rushing yards (since he has no rushing touchdowns, you can't calculate any pace numbers so lets assume 2-3 rushing TD's)

Also he's on pace for only getting sacked 40 times, which is really low in context since he never played full seasons outside 2022. He got sacked 30 times last year in 6 games for example.

This is he plays all 17 games.

Obvious things can change due to opponents, improvements, regression but thats his current pace thus far

The way they have torched the blitz especially this year has been really, really, encouraging.

Also if last week is a true indicator, the deep ball might be back in the arsenal. IF so, the pace should only increase from here on out. I am expecting the numbers to be better than what you posted above.

Quote from: ozzie on October 10, 2024, 09:22:31 AMVery true. A well balanced attack last night and that will be a huge factor throughout the season.

Chytil to me has proven he can be a high level scoring talent. It is evident in the way he plays. His only issue (and a big one) is staying healthy. But he makes that 3rd line a viable scoring threat.

Kreider looked amazing yesterday.

Zibs was totally off last year that sniper guy is entirely gone and I have no idea where he went. Hopefully he comes back this year.

Panarin Im not worried about regular season. He always produces in the regular season.

Lafreniere's little drag the puck , wait for the defensmen to clear and then fire it perfectly short side for the goal was a goal scorers goal. I think this is the year he shows everyone why he was the #1 overall pick. I expect 30+ this year.

Quote from: ozzie on October 10, 2024, 09:08:01 AMNot to put a downer on the great opening night win, but I have to point out something I didn't like...
It seems the Rangers power play is going to be the same as it was last year, pass the puck around the zone passing up good, high percentage shots, until someone can feed Zebenajab for a one timer on the off wing. It seems to be the only thing they look to do when they are a man up.
Yes, the PP was successful last season, but I think a bit more variety would benefit the unit as a whole.
It's frustrating to me to see them pass up good scoring chances just for a chance at the one timer.

Conversely, 5 v 5 play looked better than we have seen in 4-5 years. With scoring from every single line. This could be an even more important factor moving forward.

Quote from: Sem on October 09, 2024, 11:56:23 AMIt's amazing how much better the play calling is when you have competent
players executing the plays, (I'm looking at the O-Line in particular). But overall I agree with the premise of the thread.

Daboll's playcalling has been brilliant. When he is at his best like we saw in 2022, you see calls that continuously confuse the defense. Both in the run game and the pass game.

Quote from: AZGiantFan on October 08, 2024, 08:27:08 PMIt's almost as if week by week he's knocking off the rust of not playing for a long time and continuing the mental part of his injury recovery.

It's kind of like Julius Randle last year. He spent much of the off-season re-habbing so he couldn't do his normal basketball activities to get into rhythm. The first month of the season he could do mostly everything but his shot just wasn't there. It took him one month to get his shot into rythym while the media and all the fans were killing him.

Hopefully the deep ball is back for him because after week 1 DJ has been anywhere from pretty good to dare I say this last week near elite in his play. The deep ball though held him back from being anything better than pretty good. If he plays like last week though this season could take a big turn for the better.

Also each game looks a lot better for him and the touch on the deep ball may be returning

-The way Daboll has been scheming the #1 WR open has been absolutely what elite coaches do. We thought all was lost without Nabers this week. Nope. He called a fantastic game for Slayton. Back in 2022 he was famous for showing 'eye candy' and getting a team to think we were going to do one thing and then do something completely different as well as being very quick to pick up the defensive weakness in formations and continuously exploiting it. We are seeing this again since the Minny game and Daniel has responded with pretty good to elite games in basically every game since then.

-Bowen has been mixing pressure up front masterfully. Also mostly gone are most of the terribly soft zones with more aggressive mix of man and zone on the back end. Also alot of pressure packages to force single blocking on Dex and the results have been extraordinary. We have a DT that has 6 sacks in 5 games. A DT.

- I am seeing a conscious effort of rather than trying to force a player to adjust to what the coaches may sometimes prefer to run, that when a player is struggling they will adjust the scheme to what the player is more comfortable doing. Case in point, Banks man coverage has been somewhat off this year constantly going up against the other teams #1 but his zone has been much higher graded. Last game he played a lot of zone coverage vs DK and had his best game of the year.

Other observations of note:

-While Slayton and Wan'Dale have started playing well after a slow start , neither have shown to be sure handed receivers. Between those to there were 5-6 drops in the last game alone with some really key 3rd down drops by Wan'Dale pretty much all year. THis has killed some very promising drives which would have made DJs performances shine even more.

-Carmen Bracillo might be the MVP of this team. Yes, even over Nabers. This OL looks better than it has in a decade plus. Last 10 years the best we could hope for was a stalemate in run blocking most of the time with our RBs barely squeezing through small holes and often having to dance around multiple defenders not blocked immediately in the backfield. Now we are seeing our OL push most DLs actually backwards as well as some fantastic sized holes in the run game. And screens? When is the last time the Giants could ever execute a screen play? Probably back in the Tiki days with Pat Flaherty as our OL coach. It's been a long time.

That's some good stuff right there

Quote from: bamagiantfan on September 26, 2024, 10:53:34 AMI am hoping they will run, but Dallas' secondary is banged up too. They may pass a bit but i'm hoping they see just how bad Dallas is right now against the run.

Dallas is ranked dead last in the league for rush defense, rushing TDs, yards per carry, first downs allowed rushing, and 1st down allowed rushing percentage. They haven't forced a fumble yet on a rushing play.

Add to that, only the Bears and Raiders have rushed for fewer yards than the Cowboys.

My guess is, Giants will run. Dallas will throw. Anything else will just be to take advantage of Dallas LBs and Safeties creeping up to support the run or Giants dropping quickly into coverage to stop the pass.

I think they will crowd the box and shift safety help on Nabers side. They are probably going to sell out on two things: stop the run and stop Nabers. Going to be an interesting chess match.

Dallas 2nd and 3rd CBs are also out for this game , Bland and Carson.

Quote from: jimc on September 26, 2024, 06:33:14 AMI think they may be vulnerable, but not to us. At this point they are still the better team. I'm hoping for a competitive game and coming away with the feeling that we are making strides and getting better.

ZImmer could very well be a bug step down from Quinn. That is big. Is McCarthy better as a playcaller than Kellen Moore was? Maybe. But they have no RBs.

We passed on Cleveland quite a bit even though their bigger weakness was the run game. I think we will definitely run but I think we will also pass quite a bit as well (or at least that will be the initial game plan)

Dallas is beatable. Zimmer could end up being a sizeable drop from Quinn.

Quinn owned us at the LOS and their OL also would beat up on our DL all game.

However, Their OL is not as good as before either.

This game is winnable.

Any given Sunday.....err Thursday

Cowboys stuff the Box to stop the run and roll safety coverage 60/40 shade to Nabers side. Basically overplaying our run and Nabers and daring us to beat them with anything else.

If we get WanDale on favorable matchups and run stuff over the box jam, medium crossers. Also have outlet and man-beaters cooked in our plays like we did Cleveland, I think we score a decent amount on them. Zimmer is not anywhere near Quinn as a DC. Running backs catching out of the backfield were excellent vs Cleveland.

Rollouts and hitting the TE off delayed releases worked so well in 2022 and will this game.

Hodgins coming in and surprising as a more reliable target than Slayton this year. Some well timed play-action.

Using Nabers as a decoy early on to set up a bunch of other stuff and then getting him involved a few series in when they adjust.

Hitting a deep ball or two because it will be open can Hyatt step up this game?

Daboll was a master of keeping the other D off-balance in 2022 when we had very little talent across the board except Barkley. Last 2 games have looked philosophically a whole lot more like 2022 when we gave eye candy one way and did something entirely different.

Quote from: killarich on September 24, 2024, 05:13:09 AMIf we are 10 games into the season and the O-line continues this play or even improves Schoen needs to strongly consider extensions asap

I know we have a draft coming up ..... but we'd could also having another Neal type situation

Just some random thoughts .... Keep the unit together !

Van Wroten to my somewhat trained eye is the weakest link by quite a bit on the line.

My hope is put Neal in the Brillo PAd LAb and take his place on the line at RG in a few weeks.
