Here is a player I never thought would make it, but he did better than I expected

Phil Simms, in his rookie year, made a statement in this game. The Giant secondary of Beasley Reece and Terry Jackson, however, were running their mouths at Drew Pearson. In typical Cowboy fashion, Drew let Roger and the offense know about it, and they kicked it into gear to immediately score a TD, noted by missed tackles by the aforementioned, as well as the final drive, with Septien chipping it in to take the victory as time expired.

But nothing expressed the futility of the Giants in this era when, after the game, the cameras panned to an empty Giants' bench where Harry Carson just sat there befuddled. An opportunity to finally beat Roger and the Cowboys had slipped through their grasp. It was one Sunday of many that would lead him to give back his paycheck and tell the team he was quitting, the following season after a complete humiliation on Monday Night Football in Philadelphia.

As a kid watching this utter futility, and the complete inability to beat Dallas and Philadelphia, you just asked yourself why does it always have to be this way. Why aren't the Giants supposed to win games and go to the Super Bowl? It was inconceivable in those days.

Fast forward to the present, and, holy smokes, history has repeated itself! Did I dream the Giants won Super Bowls, or was that real? It's been a while that sometimes my slowly aging mind can't differentiate whether it's the 2020s or 1970s anymore. Since I don't have homework to turn in for Monday, I'll guess this is a rinse and repeat. At least Phil Simms has as many championships as Roger does in the final analysis!

Peace!

This was an especially ugly loss that never should have happened. A punt return TD, if I remember correctly, sealed the Giants' fate.

The Giants and Bengals haven't played much; only 11 times in their respective history have they met and, until the Giants finally broke through with the road win in Cincinnati in 2020, the home team has won every matchup prior.

They will meet again this season in the Sardine Can.

Peace!

I love this play!!! I love this game!!! Back in the 70s, I used to go to bed and dream the Giants could one day do this to the Cowboys. When this Season 1984, Week #2 game came to pass, when the Giants spanked the Boys and knocked the stars off their helmets, to the tune of 28-0, the fans nearly brought the house down, and I the same.

This 28-7 victory remains one of the sweetest memories of my early teen years as a Giant fan. To finally see the Giants put a beat-down on Dallas, which was a long time in coming, was and remains one of the most satisfying experiences I've ever had as a Giant fan.

Peace!
