The prospect the Giants were supposedly high on has struggled as well

2. Drake Maye continues to underwhelm while Joe Milton impresses. I wrote after last Thursday's practice that Milton is the "wow" quarterback at camp — the guy with the best size, best athleticism, and biggest arm. Now I'll take it a step further: Milton outplayed Maye over the first six practices of camp. You can't tell which player is the No. 3 overall pick (Maye) and which is the sixth-round flier (Milton).

Maye is running second on the depth chart and getting a ton of work, but he hasn't made many noteworthy throws. He was the only quarterback not to throw a touchdown pass in a red zone drill Tuesday, while Milton, in limited reps, threw touchdowns on consecutive plays, one on a drag to Polk and another on an RPO slant to JuJu Smith-Schuster.

In the red zone/two-minute situation, Maye had an ugly, off-platform throw that went way wide of Smith-Schuster, a hospital ball to tight end Mitchell Wilcox that got him sandwiched between two defenders, and an incomplete corner fade to Javon Baker in the end zone that had the entire offense doing pushups.

Meanwhile, Milton wows the crowd every day with his tantalizing arm and standing backflips. After Maye struggled in the red zone, Milton promptly came in and completed a nice pass to Kawaan Baker on the sideline.

Not surprised. The Giants wanted Daniels but had no chance. Maye was at least a step down maybe more from Daniels. And the  Pats have little talent.

Those aren't great blurbs on Maye, although the broad consensus has always been that he would not play much or at all this year due to not yet being fully ready, so I don't know that there is a great deal of urgency with him this summer.

Sp why didn't we draft  the other guy or was he on the pats already

MrGap92

I liked Milton as a development guy, wish him the best happy to see hes impressing.

He has a cannon for an arm

Surely we can't be comparing the struggles of a rookie and a 2nd-year guy to a guy starting his 6th season.  :surrender:

Clearly the game isn't slowing down yet for Jones. It is extremely concerning he cannot consistently make the short easy throws and is under throwing a lot here in practice.

Not a good sign so far, but let's hope it's just rust and timing

Bob In PA

Not everyone believes Milton has "out-played" Maye.

Let me know if the link doesn't work.

If Jeff Hostetler could do it, Daniel Jones can do it !!!

If Maye bombs, and we won't know this year, it would make me seriously wonder about Schoen and his scouts.

Jclayton92

I didn't like Maye coming out. I only thought 3 Qbs could realistically start as rookies and that was Williams, Daniels, and McCarthy. Whether Maye develops or not I always saw him as a work in progress on decision making and processing which scared me off him.

It's not a question of the "game slowing down".  It's a question of consistency.  DJ (and Lock for that matter) both make impressive throws.  The challenge for both of them is to make more good throws and less off-target throws.

That is an interesting spin, although it doesn't explain Milton doing better than Maye

No spin. The connection was made in the title.

I don't follow the other teams so I can't offer much to really explain why Milton has done better than Maye.

Maye does not have a solid repeatable foundation to throw so not surprised.  Did not want him.

Milton was so inaccurate in college that unless he got picked say in 5th or later round I dont think it was worth the gamble.
