Quote from: DaveBrown74 on August 24, 2024, 12:34:23 PMHaving somewhat more competent O line play AND an above average pass rush will be steps in the right direction this year, assuming both of those things happen. They won't solve all of our problems, but both are fundamental cornerstones of playing winning football, and both have been absent from our organization for years.

Let's see if those two components are there this year. If they are, we should be better than last year, not worse.

Stopping the run is another thing we were horrible at last year. I don't know if we'll get better there. My hope is that the addition of Burns and better ILB play besides Okereke will contribute to this.

Yes. These are the catalysts for the Giants playing to their potential. But they must achieve "Green" (i.e. Achieve Expectations) or "Blue" (i.e. Exceed Expectations) on their Strategic Balanced Scorecard. Even though the Defense wasn't a strategic imperative, it is still an important driver of success. Burns will make it better but staying healthy overall will be key to this group. But the O-Line, in particular, stands above all as the most important area for improvement for the Giants' chances for success and, especially so with their quarterback and running backs.

Peace!

Let me ask a question here, does anyone think we overachieved last year. Overall we weren't a six win team, more like a 3 or 4 win team. We stunk. So maybe winning 6-7 games this year is in the right direction.
I HATE TO INCLUDE THE WORD NASTY< BUT THAT IS PART OF BEING A WINNING FOOTBALL TEAM.

I definitely think we were worse than a six win team last year. We were absolutely terrible.

We did play a lot of good teams last year though. I'm not sure I'd say our schedule is harder this year. So if we only win 6 this year, it's hard to say anything positive about that. If we won 8, then maybe.

Anyone who believes that the talent gap for the Giants inter division only resides in Dallas and Philly  is going to be really disappointed.

The Commi's are coming (they already have a better QB).

Either Philly flops or Daboll needs another COTY performance to keep us out of the cellar.

From Simms to Eli (with an assist from Hoss) our Super Bowl Quarterbacks. Great defense and clutch QB performances...NY Giants Championship football.

I have an old profile still floating around: andrew_nyg....I am one and the same!

andrew: I think the Giants will finish above the Eagles this season. Bob
If Jeff Hostetler could do it, Daniel Jones can do it !!!

Very bold call Bob.

I have the Eagles not only winning the division but also as a top three team in the NFC. I think we are still a good ways behind them. If we close the gap a little bit, that would be a nice step for us this year IMO.

Bob,
If that happens I'd like to buy you several of your favorite adult beverages (actually I would anyway, but you get my point) LOL

Vegas and others have the Giants O/U at 6.5 Wins. As a Giants fan, I will take the Over without question. But as an impartial bettor, I would have to bet the Under. That way, I can't lose much more than another crummy season.  ~X(

Cheers!

Wow, that's some claim, Bob!

Let's hope you're correct.

The 2024 New York Football Giants Strategic Imperatives:

SI#1: Fix the damn offensive line
SI#2: Close the gap between your two key divisional rivals (DAL & PHI)
SI#3: Improve 2024 Lost Man-Games due to Injury metric vs. 2023

That's all they have to do, no predictions required, and they'll be better than last season.

Peace!

Sadly, they will be the same imperatives for 2025.

Well, at least John and Steve can take off the entire off-season, cross out 2024, marker in 2025, and, as Chris Allen used to say,

"And the beat goes on!"

Peace!

EDj: I intended to say Giants will finish ahead of Philly OR DALLAS, but I lost my train of thought.

It comes with old age. lol

Nevertheless, I'm fine with leaving it as originally stated, because the odds in favor of the Giants finishing ahead of Dallas are far, far longer than finishing ahead of Philly, so addition of Dallas to the statement does not add much at all.

I love the optimism year after year.  I sadly, (again) don't see a winning team.

ex-p: IMO there are two types of optimism.

One is hoping for the best with a lot of supporting data/info.

The other is hoping for the best with nothing but blind faith.
