Is it just me or does it look like for a lot of the game, Malik NABERS wasn't running full speed on routes nor given any effort??? Hopefully I am wrong but I swear I saw several routes throughout the game where he didn't appear to be interested.

Here is what's going to be interesting to watch- what is Malik Nabers' character?  As a superstar on a terrible offensive team with a poor QB that won't be able to get him the ball consistently- what does Nabers do?  Barkley has been in his exact shoes.  Does Nabers act like Saquon Barkley and suck it up, work his ass off regardless, and stay positive?  Or does he pout, become a cancer, not put in the effort he should?

Who knows, but it bears watching.  Of course this all changes if by some miracle the offense/DJ/whoever replaces DJ starts to show some life.

I think Nabers may have to be the one to get Jones benched ..... he said before he got drafted that he doesn't like when he's not targeted .... We probably need our first round pick to get pissed before Daboll and Schoen are like oh sh** we have to make a move

Exactly. I still am curious if anyone noticed his lackluster route running or am I just imagining stuff. Maybe someone who watches the All 22 tape can let me know if I did see what I thought I seen or if I am way off.

I think it's only fair he gets 60 games or so before we judge anything.

That seems to be the leash for first round picks, or at least some of them.

I'm certainly not judging him after one game. If you want to, go ahead.

True dat. But it's not like there weren't some character yellow flags.  With the gun thing happening AFTER he was drafted.

No doubt about his talent, but we'll see if the character issues are bugs or a feature.

It's going to be a test of his character. With the way the QB position is looking, even if Nabers is a good player (and really, who knows yet whether he is or not - nobody Schoen has brought in has been a star), he may end up with just 45 catches and may only see the end zone once or twice.

Giant Jim

I remember when they got Galladay, they said he would help because he could reach up and catch balls in the end zone, he could get balls when covered well. They never threw high passes to him to out muscle defenders. They said he couldn't get open. Now they say this guy is similar, but they don't throw to him either.

Welcome to the NFL.

Don't expect elite WRs to play hard when the offense sucks. It would be nice if everyone was Rudy Ruttiger but this is the NFL. You can get a Plaxico showing up his QB when things are off but if things are right, they'll carry you to a Super Bowl. Get this guy a real offense with a real QB and you won't be complaining about him. Don't, and it doesn't matter anyway.

I think you're probably right. And if you recall from Hard Knocks, Daboll said "I like that" when Nabers admitted he'll be pissed if he doesn't get the ball. Nabers did qualify that remark with something to the effect of "I'll be pissed because I want to win and I know I can help this team win", but whatever he said, Daboll nodded in agreement and said he liked it.

Then just today, in the postgame presser Daboll was asked why after all this talk about going deep more often they didn't attempt a single pass of 20 yards or more? Daboll's response was that "we did call plays" (meaning we called plays where there was a deep target) and kind of shrugged his shoulders.

Nabers may prove to be a whiny bad teammate. Or he may prove to be resilient and an amazing teammate who shows leadership skills. I'm not sure which he'll be, but based on the above, if Jones is failing to get him the ball when he's open deep, and Nabers is getting frustrated by that, I'm not sure the conclusion from his coaches and the organization will be that he's the villain in that dispute.

I can't believe we are complaining about Nabors already. He was the only receiver who showed me anything today.

I think you have to see he all-22 to really judge it.  Vilma kept talking about how guys were not open.  Praising Jones for not trying to force a play that wasn't there.  My thought after the 193rd time was, "why the hell can't they get open?"  Is it the play design? is it the receivers are terrible? Does Flores just know exactly what the Giants offense is going to do and knows what to call?"  Vilma also brought up the whole concept of the chess match between the coaching staffs.

Vilma also said that no one was open on a play where Robinson was wide open in front of DJ as he stepped up in the pocket. I'm not sure Vilma's comment is trustworthy.

If I was Nabers I'd be sure to get away from this franchise as soon as it's possible.

Just think if 30 million a year of your money was tied to a man who couldn't pass the ball
How pissed would you be
