Football as we know BBH brethren is quite the emotional/confidence/momentum type sport.

When a coach takes accountability, sometimes what he is saying either directly or indirectly is that he will do right by you the player. Essentially it's a dropping of what he envisions and then more of an adopting of what the players truly want to do. When the players are empowered by the faith of their coach in doing what they want on the field more often it often is a HUGE confidence boost.

Again I could be absolutely reading into the situation wrongly but this just might be the case here. Both Coughlin and Fassel had moments like this that led to big turnarounds for their respective squads.

I read it as Daboll knows he is losing the room of public support and pretty soon the locker room as well. Both he and Jones do better when they show emotion and wear their heart on their sleeve.

Instead we have cautious "weak" Daboll who won't even go for it on 4th and 3 midfield in week one down 14-3 while playing AT HOME.

Trust me, one more bad week and this thing will unravel before it has begun. Fans will be screaming for the cutlets kid

And guess what? The Vikings might end up in last place in their division.

Both Coughlin and Fassel had humbling moments my fellow Trench-man. This CAN be a good thing. Not guaranteeing it will as things do not look too promising right now but we shall see.

Quote from: Trench on September 10, 2024, 04:15:08 PMMaybe the defense knew it was coming because the QB hasn't been taught (or if he has then he hasn't practiced) looking off the defense!!

LOLOLOL...looking off the defense on an immediate screen pass.

Look, DJ was awful, we all know it. But you constantly bring up this "locking onto a receiver" trait, and there are plenty of times when you're right.

But to bring it up in the context of a quick screen is just fundamentally wrong.

Jones runs an offense with training wheels

It's simple because of Jones limitations

In away I feel for Daboll he can only run limited playbook knowing he job is on the line

Quote from: MightyGiants on September 10, 2024, 03:54:37 PMThere was plenty of bad things that could have been blamed on Jones in that game (starting with his accuracy).  I just know Xs and Os, and that play doesn't work if the defense knows it's coming.  This was a particularly bad choice of plays facing the Vikings, who love to routinely line 8 up at the LOS, so the QB isn't even tipped off to their intention of jumping the route since they routinely back off the LOS at the snap.

Forget Jones for a second, why would ANY coach put that play in the book? Indeed, the Vikings line up eight regularly and, on that play, there's a decent chance a talented Van Ginkel can jump the play and make something happen (NOTE: Why don't the Giants draft or sign this kind of player? Guys like him remind me of Kevin Greene or Clay Matthews III who have motors who don't know how to play at any speed other in overdrive). To make matters worse, Van Ginkel was completely uncovered on the line!!! Why wouldn't the coach instruct the QB to be looking for that and audible for an alternate play or something? Is that too hard for fear the QB will color outside the numbers, or someone stole his Crayola Crayon sharpener out of the back of the box?

Jones was having a crappy day to that point and that call ensured his utter demise. Whether he was capable of turning it into a positive play is immaterial. That it was a high risk play call not far off his own goal line was bizarre.

Give 10 lashes with a wet noodle to Jones for not keeping track of Van Ginkel and 100 lashes to Daboll for even thinking about calling that play in that situation.

The commentary by the Vikings in the OP leaves me shaking my head  like a kid shaking a piggy bank in hopes some money falls out so he can go to the corner store and buy a piece of candy or something.

Don't ask what's coming out of my head!

We've heard this before from opponents that they knew what was coming. Dabol at the beginning of his tenure stated that we will work to maximize what the individual players do best. Well, guess what? Jones doesn't do alot of things well. So therefore there is a limit on the offense, so of course the opposing defense can see what's coming. Jones' limitations limits what Dabol can do. That's why Dabol/Schoen deserve their own QB, not this reprise of the Duke disaster.

Nobody would be happier if your words ring true than me. I've been a Daboll supporter but I like the year one Daboll a lot better than what I saw this past week. He didn't even have people playing in their usual spots from where they practiced in the summer

Philosophers

Opposing players last year said the same thing.  They knew the play being called.  Dabs offense is a joke.

This game was an unmitigated disaster.  This should have been a VERY winnable game at home vs. Sam Darnold and that sub-par Vikings defense.  Our defensive line was supposed to be dominant and they simply disappeared.  Our running game was putrid.  Our passing game has been covered ad nauseum.

How will they respond this week against another VERY WINNABLE game against an atrocious pass defense and a rookie QB???  Guess we'll just have to see how it plays out but my confidence level is pretty low.

It's always a good sign when opposing players feel bad for you.

It's not daboll or even Kafka, dbs and other defenses have learned that Jones is not smart, he can't read the entire field or process what he is seeing. What can Daboll do with that?

I just encourage people to rewatch our offense again last year with Jones vs Tyrod. One is an NFL qb and the other isn't, that's what Dabolls offense looks like with a journeyman backup, imagine if he had a competent qb to actually run a complex offense.

Tyrod led the league in some advanced stats like big time throw% etc in like 5 games, imagine a competent qb in his offense, the same one Tua, hurts, Allen, etc thrived in.

Great, so now we are a laughingstock that players feel bad beating. That sure makes it easy to recruit quality free agents
