Quote from: kartanoman on September 12, 2024, 08:49:01 AMYes, there comes a time to hit the refresh button and a head coach wants to have a go with HIS QB.

In some respects, Kerry Collins was in this situation when Eli was drafted. The primary difference was that Coach Coughlin made it clear to Collins that he was no longer the future for the Giants.

In Daboll's case, the cards haven't played out for that scenario. However, when they do, it is probably safe to say that he will get his QB and Jones will move on.

It doesn't make sense to hate Jones because the decision to draft him, as high a pick he was selected at, and considering the school he played at, were both fundamental mistakes by the scouting department and the GM of the day. Then, with the team in perpetual chaos ever since, very few QBs could succeed in those conditions with the O-Lines they had.

I can imagine Jones breathing a perverse sigh of relief when his days are done with the Giants.

Peace!
I've been very vocal and stout in saying Mara has influenced his personnel by making his wishes known. I think Daboll and Schoen came on board ready to move on from Jones. Mara wanted them to see if they could work with him. If they don't put their feet down and emphatically tell Mara, "Enough with Jones," they'll be gone and the next guy will be trying to build around Jones as well.

Yet another chapter in this sad, but all too predictable saga.

Peace!

"Dave Jennings was one of the all-time great Giants. He was a valued member of the Giants family for more than 30 years as a player and a broadcaster, and we were thrilled to include him in our Ring of Honor. We will miss him dearly." (John Mara)

WHY CAN'T THIS GO IN ANY OF THE DOZENS OF EXISTING JONES THREADS???

I actually like multiple threads.  I very rarely open a thread that's 200 pages long.  After page 2, there are a select few who are actually engaged in that thread and any new thoughts or ideas get lost within it.  Just my 2 cents

So now that the usual excuses of OL and WR being terrible are gone, we've moved on to he's lost all his confidence?  Why can't we just say what it appears to be the most reasonable and logical explanation for all this:  He's not any good!

He wasn't very good in college, he had no business being taken #6, and he's been terrible in the NFL.  Players bust every single year, he's a bust, but for some reason we have a hard time admitting it.

I'm pretty sure if he had been taken in even the 2nd round rather than the 1st he'd have been cut before his rookie deal was up.

Well... his confidence IS shot! His internal clock is running at 2x the speed and he's not sure if the new guys up front are going to keep him from getting crushed. It's a legitimate feeling for him to have.

However... he needs to develop short-term memory loss and go out there and ball out like he's got the best line in the world. This year's line, this year's WRs are not the same that he had 2-3 years ago. He had NFL-caliber protection last week and I'm confident they will only get better as the season goes on. If he suits up, he needs to have his head in the game and leave his PTSD in the parking lot.

Now, I don't agree with Rudolph that he was running for his life last week. Jones ran himself into oncoming traffic on three of those five sacks.

"We all have full belief and faith in DJ," said Hyatt. "I'm not worried about him at all. It's one week, we all forget that he's coming off an ACL. This was his first time really in action (after the injury) and seeing it at that speed. We have full faith in him. He'll get better and we'll get better for him."

"There is a greater purpose...that purpose is team. Winning, losing, playing hard, playing well, doing it for each other, winning the right way, winning the right way is a very important thing to me... Championships are won by teams who love one another, who respect one another, and play for and support one another."
~ Coach Tom Coughlin

Why does everyone keep repeating this 1 bad week BS?  It's not one week, its now 9 weeks, stretching back to the 2022 playoff game in Phili.  He hasn't played a full quality game since the 2022 Minn game, which we are now 21 months removed from.  We also have 8+ years worth of games suggesting he's a below average passer.  The notion fans are booing him after one bad game, following a significant injury, is objectionably false. It's completely unfair to the fans, including many here, who have been MORE than fair to DJ. I have no doubts DJ will get better; however, his best isn't good enough.
