Quote from: madbadger on September 27, 2024, 04:44:13 PMAt this point who cares. He is who he is, and that's a quarterback who comes up small when they need him the most. When Eli was a quarterback I always had confidence that he'd find an way and if he didn't we were surprised. Was anyone here surprised that in a winnable game he threw 0 touchdown passes? The sooner the sun sets on the Jones error the sooner we can return to being respectable.

Probably right. its frustrating cause you see these flashes, but then he comes back to earth and reminds you this is basically his ceiling. its ok.. but not good enough. it truly is backup level qb play. hes just been SO bad that last night looked good for the most part. Im just happy theres progress, but it may be too little too late, and as tiki barber pointed out..he just doesnt have IT. He's not going to march you down the field for a game winner.

Quote from: StompYouOT on September 27, 2024, 10:32:22 PMThat video is more intermediate passing, which I saw him do yesterday.  A deep ball, like on the free play was never his strength.  That's why I wasn't a Jones supporter even when he showed promise. A franchise QB leads the receiver and it's 6, rather than a jump ball.

I thought he had some nice passes last night he zipped in there, but he never was a guy who defenses were scared of going over the top.  Injuries or not.  Like someone else said he is who is.

The throws are 40 yards or better in the air.  How far are your long throws?

Haha, come on now, Rich. Nobody here is saying they themselves can personally do better when they criticize or make less than complimentary observations about any Giant player. In all your years attacking the Giants' O line, did anyone ever ask you if you personally could do a better job blocking for Jones?

Jeff,

I know you have an extreme animosity toward Jones (as witnessed by your screen name) but I don't understand your point.  Do you consider 40 yards through the air as intermediate?  Also, why get so personal criticism for just asking a question?

Rich,

"Extreme animosity towards Daniel Jones" is an absolutely ridiculous characterization of my stance that I'm not even going to waste my time addressing beyond what I have just said. I can't help but think your word choice there is an attempt to be deliberately provocative, but I'm not going to take the bait beyond saying it's silly (to use as gentle a word I can come up with that fits).

Moreover, Jones has nothing to do with my screen name or my decision to use that screen name. If I wanted to make my screen name an attack on Jones I would have done just that. That was never my intention. My DaveBrown74 screen name has nothing to do with Jones (other than Brown going to the same school), so that's an entirely false claim on your part and is frankly a bit of a weird comment that I'll just leave alone beyond saying it's patently false. If you have Jones on the brain, and everything is about Jones to you, that's not my problem.

Getting to the second part of your post, no, I don't consider 40 yards through the air as intermediate. My point was that this has nothing to do with the other poster's personal ability to throw a football.

So why did you level personal attacks against me (suggesting I am some emotionally compromised Jones lover) for just asking a very legit question (that you literally agreed with)???

I didn't say you were. I said if you are, that's not my concern. And I never used the word "lover." That is your word, not mine. I am not part of the group of posters here that uses "Jones hater" and "Jones lover", and I never have been.

To that latter point, your earlier post directly accused me of two things that were false:

(1) That I have "extreme animosity" towards Jones. That is an outright fabrication and has never been true. I don't think he's a very good NFL starting QB, as many people don't, but to call that "extreme animosity" is utterly ridiculous. I have actually gone out of my way for years now to compliment Jones in many other ways beyond his play on the field and have said very complimentary things about him as a person and an athlete. And by the way on the occasions that he has played well, I have been complimentary of his play.

(2) That my decision to make DaveBrown74 a screen name is evidence that I have "extreme animosity" towards Jones. This is a bizarre comment from you that is completely detached from reality and led to my comment that if everything is about Jones to you, that's not a reason to be attacking me, as you have.

This whole follow-up exchange between us was completely unnecessary. All my original point was was that if a poster criticizes a player here, that's not an implicit statement that the poster is saying he personally can do better. I think this comment by me was reasonable, and I don't see how it was offensive. You decided to take it and springboard into some unreasonable and complete false claims about me. I have no idea why you did that.

I don't think your framing was remotely accurate.  Someone claimed the video showed intermediate passes.  When I was watching the video I specifically took note of how far the ball was thrown.   I pointed out the 40 air yards to the person making the claim and asked him if that was what he considered "intermediate.

Your response seemed personal and over the top to that very factual and legitimate question.  You have always been very critical of Daniel Jones, so I was wondering if that position was what triggered your inaccurate (and frankly insulting) characterization of me.  You are a good man, so I am at a loss. Why would you have taken that out-of-the-blue swipe at me?

That came simply as a response to what I thought was a bizarre, personal, and accusatory remark by you (which, again, was totally false) that my screen name means I have "extreme animosity" for Jones. If anything was out of the blue, it was that. If I have been very critical of Jones as a player, I don't see how that qualifies as "extreme animosity", which connotes a deep, personal dislike, something I have never once felt towards Jones. Actually, I feel the opposite way about him on a personal level. And the screen name point was just weird and so patently false that it felt deliberately provocative.

If you want the last word on this, go ahead. I think this whole back and forth was completely unnecessary, I do not believe I am the one who started it (as my first post seemed like a very reasonable and non-offensive point), and I have no desire to take it further.

I was asking the poster for his definition of a long throw, not how far he could throw a football.

Having posted this, I think I see the issue.  When I asked how far your long throws are, I asked for his definition of a long throw, not how far he could throw the ball.  I will say I could see how you could have misinterpreted what I wrote.  However, I would think I have earned a reputation where one wouldn't assume I asked such a silly question.

I think once you see where you made the wrong assumption, you can see why I would be insulted by your commentary (which until now I had no idea why you would even say it)

Rich,

If by "how far are your long throws" you meant "How far is your definition of a long throw", then you're right that I misinterpreted it, although I think most if not all would interpret that comment the way I did.

I wonder why instead of simply correcting me on my first post, you decided to go on the diatribe about my "extreme animosity" towards Jones and the bizarre attribution of my screen name to that false claim of yours. It seems to me that that post is the one that caused our dialogue to devolve into something beneath a reasonable exchange or harmless disagreement.

I did not log on this AM with the intention of getting into a quarrel with anyone here. If you were offended by my remarks, I apologize for that. Having received that apology, perhaps you might now reconsider whether it was necessary for you to make the false accusations to me that you did (prior to my remark that offended you). Wouldn't a better alternative to that have simply been to correct my reasonable misunderstanding of your original post about long throws?

In any event, as I said above, I did not come here today (or any day for that matter) with any plan to tie it on with anyone here. That is not why I come to this board. I think that should be pretty clear to you and everyone here. I will admit that I have a tendency to push back when someone comes at me first though, particularly if it's in an unreasonable, disrespectful, or totally false manner.

It appears to me Jones has to be having arm trouble or maybe something wrong with his form. I do notice he "steps in the bucket" when he throws deep. It looks very different from his rookie year.

It seems like forever the last time he actually threw a TD in front of the home crowd in Giants Stadium.

He is a backup QB. It's never been more apparent. He doesn't possess the ability to elevate his team. The entire league knows the book on him locking onto receivers and he hurts our running game because he can't or won't throw to his TE. Even his own running plays lack the elements of surprise which they used to have.

He needed to win that game. 1st and goal on national TV at home and he doesn't even throw it into the end zone ONCE! Good QBs find a way to win the game.
