Why are we assume Arch Manning will leave school early instead of staying his senior season when most of the top QBS are 22-23 in their draft seasons now thanks to the NIL money?

Full stop on any suggestion Schoen would even think of punting 2025 for a QB that share's Eli's last name. It's insanity.  ~X(

He'd punt on a season for a prospect the likes of him. Regardless of name.  He'd kinda did it for Caleb Williams, that's why Devito was starting as many games as he did.  It wasn't but for the grace of God that Devito somehow managed to win 3 games and screw up the plans.

DeVito started because Jones and Taylor got injured.
Caleb was already the top prospect and was going to be in the next draft.
You cannot compare that to a kid who doesn't even start yet, who we wouldn't even be talking about if he wasn't a Manning. Come on man.

Quote from: AZGiantFan on October 14, 2024, 05:02:40 PMFor me, it is far too early in his college career to be making plans on how to draft Arch Manning.  But if there is no QB they love in the 2025 draft, assuming they are moving on from DJ, I am not averse to signing a FA stopgap and hoping for better pickings in the 2026 draft.  For which, Arch or no Arch, stockpiling some 2026 picks would be good.

FWIW I agree with everything you have written here.

When Arch is eligible for the draft, and declares, he will be the #1 pick in the draft.  (provided no major injuries of course) I'd be willing to put some stakes on that. That kid is legit.

We lose this week and drafting 9-13 may become more like 8-12.

Quote from: VanPelt on October 14, 2024, 12:45:45 PMAccording to Mel Kiper, almost all of the top 5 QBs should still be there. At least 3 of the top 5.

If the "top" QBS are still there at 9, then they are not exactly the sort of elite prospects that so many here have demanded.

C'mon people, you know better than that, dontcha? The Draft isn't just unpredictable irrespective of Draft position, it's not even as good as a crapshoot in which there are known odds at least. ~X(

Of course, it's certainly seems true that the Giants have been cursed well before and ever since the "Archie Manning-manipulated" 2004 Draft. Good reason for the current handwringing, I s'pose

Cheers!

The difficulty of evaluating talent makes 9 as good as anywhere given the high bust rate.

True. The issue with 9 is that any heralded QB prospect is long gone by there. If Shedeur doesn't go first overall he's going top 3 for sure.

Obviously it's totally possible to draft a great QB at 9. Or later. We know all the examples, Mahomes being one. That wasn't the point. The point is more just that at 9, while you can expect to have an excellent chance of getting a very good player, you have absolutely no shot at any QB who is coveted on draft day.

if the Giants pick something like 9th-13th, they should be open to just signing some veteran QB next year and either drafting another player with that pick or trading the pick away and trying to stockpile draft capital for next year's draft.

Sure, luck means a lot in football. Not having a good quarterback is bad luck. - Don Shula

That said, the chances of getting a "good" quarterback may be better in some Draft years than others, and while never a certainty, the later the pick, the less are the chances despite our tendency to embrace the exceptions.

Cheers!

Quote from: Philosophers on October 14, 2024, 12:52:27 PMFunny as I am wondering if the Giants want to go all in for Arch Manning in 2026 (assuming he develops)and fo BPA in 2025 to get more top talent.

Drafting around 12th can get them a top 3 tech DT or CB or another WR or TE.

If Arch Manning comes out next year, and that's a big if, whoever has the first pick isn't going to be trading it away even if they have a solid quarterback.

Arch is probably a one year starter and done if he posts good stats.

Maybe but he's making millions and comes from a family of dudes that would have been top 5 picks if they left after their junior years but elected to come back for their senior years. He's a good looking kid, with money and a quarterback at a football crazy school filled with beautiful coeds. I'm sure he's having the time of his life.
