I don't want to give away young talent.   I just want to identify a franchise QB in the draft and do what it takes to make it happen, even if it costs us like the Eli trade    Bring DJ back as a transition for a lower salary or grab a placeholder for a year   Draft a guard to help the run game. Once  the next franchise QB is on the roster, the rebuild will leapfrog forward. We are stuck in futility

Quote from: TDToomer on October 21, 2024, 09:59:05 AMHe is in the 3rd year of his 4 year rookie deal.

He hasn't done nearly enough to be resigned - seems like 70% of time he runs short of the marker. And he had a case of the drops too.

I'd trade him asap

I would cut him and Hyatt.  I know there will be some talking about what they invested in draft capital.  That's all great, but the 2 of them are just not good enough.  Not holding onto a player because of where he was drafted when they just can't be productive.  Would rather let a player go too early than hold him for too long.  Neither would carry a big dead-money cap hit.  They are just not worth the roster spot.  They do not bring anything to the table that they cant get from another mid-round draft pick or cheap FA signing.

Receivers are found relatively easily compared to other positions. So I agree, but I would put anyone (Lawrence, Nabors and Thomas excepted) on the market at the trade deadline. If there is a sucker out there for any of the Giants, deal them. That's how you tank without really tanking. Washington, knowing they were going to clean house after the season, dealt players at the deadline last year and as result, sucked the rest of the season. But sucking got them Jaydon Daniels. Would you take that?

If there is a Jayden Daniels in the draft which this year it looks like there isn't.

Miami tanked the 2019 season for Tua.  The has improved but the Giants have won more playoff games since that draft than the Dolphins.  This team needs a QB badly, just not sure if this is the year its going to happen.

Still, the Giants are so far from being good. No need to keep mediocre players.

I agree with that.  I even think some of their above average players should be potential trade bait.  I think KT could get some interest.  I know he is at a premium position and has more than a year left and the potential to use a 5th year option, but thats part of what would make him more attractive in a trade.  A team like Detroit lost their best pass rusher and could use a bookend when Hutchinson returns next year.

I think the biggest factor is if the team really thinks they are giving him a 2nd contract or not.  I am of the belief that they won't re-sign him because they have big contracts with Burns and Dex up front already.  So how much are you going to spend on that group?

I am sure many will think I am nuts wanting to trade a good pass rusher, but until this team gets a QB, the few guys that are foundational talents are being wasted.

I'd rather have a QB with a solid foundation than no foundation. A truly great QB will be able to overcome talent to an extent, but unloading the players that are building blocks for the future would be a bad idea imo.

I am saying Andrew Thomas, Dex, Nabers, and Burns are all off the table.

Quote from: kingm56 on October 20, 2024, 04:08:55 PMYou realize the game has fundamentally changed since GY's days, right? AND, before today, he had one of the better pass-blocking lines in the NFL, and still produced the NFL's #29 scoring defense.  We'll be down to 30 this week.  In the modern NFL, the correct saying is show me a struggling team and I'll show you a team with a mediocre or worse QB.

It's pretty clear DJ can not overcome the beating (mentally and physically) in 2023.  He's a shell of himself, thanks to Schoen's GM malpractice when it came to the 2023 O-line.

That said, the O-line was NFL adequate when it came to pass protection, but it was not a good run-blocking line in most games (the ones they were, they excelled).  It was so bad in the Philly game that the Eagles were able to play nickel and dime defense for most of the game, and the Giants still couldn't run against it.

Let us not forget that the Giants are number 2 in dropped passes.   Drop passes are like sacks in that they often are effective ways to end drives.

So yes, the QB is shot mentally (and doesn't look like the runner he was pre-ACL).  However, let us not give credit to two weeks of poor pass blocking, weak run blocking, and receivers who seem to love their hot buttered popcorn before trying to catch passes.  There is plenty of blame to go around (including Daboll's play calling) as to why this offense is totally ineffective.

Actually that is not true and it was confirmed by Brian Flores in his lawsuit against the NFL. He said the Dolphins owner offered to pay him to tank and he refused. Sometimes a team just sucks on their own.

The Eagles playing 3rd string Nate Sudfeld in the final game of the season is the clearest example of a team trying not to win for draft position and it still cost their coach his job as management had to save face when they were questioned about it by the national and local media.

The coach refused to tank but Minkah Fitzpatrick and Laremy Tunsil were traded.  I don't think there is a coach in the NFL that would be open to tanking a season.

That's rebuilding not tanking.
