Quote from: MightyGiants on November 21, 2024, 01:08:44 PMI would suggest it's more akin to say Hamilton's mechanic isn't very good
Hamilton = Daboll
Car = Offense
Engine = Jones

Another thread it was said it was pointless to kick a man while he is down, because he is done.

Wouldn't being done also make it equally pointless to defend him, prop him up, and deflect all the blame elsewhere?

Since Daboll is calling plays and heavily involved in coaching

Mechanic =  also Daboll

Quote from: T200 on November 21, 2024, 12:59:29 PMUnderstood. I'm already on record that if he loses the locker room, he's gone. Otherwise, I expect to see him on the sidelines next year, hopefully with a new QB and OC.

He is definitely on VERY shaky ground. He got rid of Wink and took the play calling duties away from Kafka. His QB went backwards, his team not improving - nor is he as he also has made dumb decisions both on the field and off. The locker room is now lukewarm to him.

Daboll is 100% coaching for his job.

Are you referring to the defense of Daboll's failures as a head coach, which led to his quarterback getting worse each season he coached him?

Yup, Wink was the guy he tossed under the bus.  Taking over play calling means Daboll has no one to blame but himself for the offensive shortcomings.

Wink is a non-factor for me. Addition by subtraction.

His QB didn't go backwards. His QB overachieved in 2022 and has since reverted back to his mean.

We don't know that his locker room is lukewarm to him.

I think fans feel his job is in more jeopardy than it really is.

I do agree with that part. He owns the calls and the production.

Larry,

Should I use the cliche 'enough blame to go around for everyone"? Players have certainly contributed to this mess, too.

The Giants, however, are a complete and utter disaster top to bottom.

Quote from: T200 on November 21, 2024, 12:15:38 PMIf I'm Joe Schoen, some of the conversations that should have been had center around the QB that the owner heavily influenced Schoen and Daboll to keep. Mara can't justify firing Daboll when he saddled him with a QB that couldn't move the ball downfield and put it in the end zone on a regular basis. People pay good money to attend the games and Jones only had one game at home with a passing TD. Unacceptable. That's the QB Mara wanted, that's the results we got.

THIS! It's all on Mara. It's in his DNA to make Jones type decisions. If Pete Rozelle didn't step in we would never have had George Young. There are definite similarities in how Wellington did, and John goes about ownership. How can there not be? Father and son. They hire(d) family soldiers, and would influence. Jones' contract is all on Mara. Now the compromise is being exercised. It's a business. The players will tell you that. Therefore they should just go about their business, and not voice their dismay, and/or feel bad for Jones. Can't have it both ways. One of their NFLPA brethren is now on the sideline out of harms way collecting the back end of $40 Million. No need to cry for Jones. Let's see who Schoen/Dabol value in this draft at QB. There could be a couple of second or even third round QB's that may fit their criteria. If we do get #1 or #2 I would like to see what level of a King's ransom we could get back in return. We need to stockpile good football players.

It's worth noting that Mara won two Super Bowl.  The key was having a strong culture-setting head coach like Tom Coughlin

Quote from: MightyGiants on November 21, 2024, 12:25:07 PMA QB (regardless of talent ceiling) should be as well year to year (unless they are nearing the end of their career) or get better the longer they are coached by a QB guru.  Instead, we saw DJ play well (but not quite good enough) but get progressively worse with each season to the point that this season could reasonably described as DJ's worst season of his career.  Hard to see how that doesn't reflect negatively on the QB guru HC

It reflects on everyone.

Ownership
Management
Jones
His ardent supports.
