Maybe the Giants shouldn't draft a QB in the 1st round

Looking at this draft, it looks weak as a whole. As it pertains to QBs, it looks like there is no clear cut #1 QB. Seems most have Sanders and Ward as the top two. It wasn't long ago Beck and Ewers were in the top 10 either. Milroe has been mentioned. Allar is one I like, but if I was him, I would go back to school one more year. Dart and Nussmeier are interesting.

None of the QBs mentioned seem to be day one starters. Most if not, all would benefit from sitting most if not all the 2025 season.

Question remains: Are we a Quarterback away from being a contender or threat in our division?

The Giants have terrible offensive and defensive lines, and picking another skill position player, such as a QB with the first overall pick, is a good idea? How'd that philosophy work out for Barkley and Dan Jones?

The Giants should trade down and get more picks. They have the worst roster of any NFL team and why Schoen made that ridiculous Burns deal giving him 145 million and also costing 2 high picks was very foolish. The money for Burns could have used to resign Barkley and McKinney sure All-Pro's this year with CAP leftover.

Teams that probably need a QB:

Raiders

Jets

Titans

Browns

Colts

Seahawks

Rumors have it that Saunders wants to go to the Raiders, so the Giants should see if teams that draft after the Raiders want to move up to take him.

I want a QB as bad as most here do too, but do you see a franchise QB in this draft?  The Giants have one of the worst offensive lines in the league.  It's a big reason why Jones failed.   It's hard to be productive when you're running for your life.  The Raiders do actually have maybe the worst offensive line in the league with little weapons outside of Bowers.  So, they will draft a QB that will be under immediate pressure, and he'll be throwing to a bunch of average receivers.  Yeah.  That sounds like success.

It's a viscous cycle.  the bad teams will reach for QB's early in the draft rather than picking "the best player available" and will continue to struggle because of it.

So, what should we do? When Baker Mayfield was a free agent, He went to the Rams, after I suggested we should go after him, he went to the Buccaneers and now getting paid. This summer I suggested Sam Darnold, most here was against it, now I see in threads, asking if the Giants should go after him at the end of the season. Too expensive now. Again, the Giants would be smart to try trading what might very well be the top pick in the draft to begin filling the many holes they have (like their porous offensive line).  Sign a gap quarterback until they can find a franchise passer down the line.

My FA QB's I would go after are Jameis Winston or Marcus Mariota (both picked in 2015) and I would look hard at a QB that dropped and was there when we pick in round 2. Let him sit the entire year, whats the worst that can happen? To me we develop a starter or a cheap back-up.

I don't subscribe to this "clear-cut favorite" stuff.

If the GM and coach feel strongly about a player and they've done their due diligence, then they should pull the trigger.

Clear-cut favorites fail all the time.

If the Giants go the route that you suggest, my choice would be Justin Fields

How was the 2017 QB class regarded before it happened? The one where Mahomes "fell" to 10?

Was that thought to be a weak or strong class?

I just don't get why people say a class is weak or strong, when all the mock drafts and reports are typically wrong more often than right. The strength or weakness of any position we won't know for at least a year or two, maybe 3

Patrick Mahomes is the only QB drafted since 2013 that has won a Super Bowl.

So maybe it's overrated.

I think over 30 have been drafted in that time.

Wow what a stat.  Didn't know that.

It's tough because Brady and Mahomes won 7 of the last 10 Super Bowls. The other 3 are Peyton, Stafford, and Foles. Now that the Brady era has ended, it opens up more opportunities for other QBs... unless Mahomes goes on a two decade run.

Of what value is a drafted rookie QB when the offensive front five act like a welcoming committee? The Giants can make far better use of their money in putting together the bones of an offense.

If we don't think a QB is worth taking early, who is going to trade up with us? When you're talking top 3 pick, teams generally  only trade up when they want a QB. Seeing as how we're probably the most QB-needy team there is, I don't see trading down as a viable option.

I don't care if the QB is first pick worthy in the eyes of the draftniks.  If a team  believes strongly there is a franchise QB prospect, draft him.

They won't win until they get a more than just competent QB. And also a better coach. If you want to Keep kicking the can down the road, expect more losing.

We've spent the last five years saying we just need to surround Jones with help and we'll be good. Here we are five years later and we're worse than we were the year we drafted him. In the end the modern game revolves around the quarterback. Without one you're dead on arrival. The idea of signing some middling vet and trying to build the roster is going to lead us drafting in the top five next year with no hope for the future. Ask the Broncos fans how they feel about their future.

If you find that dude, don't get cute. Draft your signal caller.  Many GMs look smart because they have a good signal caller in place and can then wheel-and-deal their picks to build their team.  However, the failures of the OL have to be analyzed.  Is it a lack of draft and FA talent?  Then that falls on Schoen and the front office.  Is it poor coaching and development?  Then that's Daboll and his crew.  Is it both?  Then the GM and HC need to be shown the door.  The Giants can pump more resources in to the OL, but it will continue to fail until they get to the core of its failures.

People have been singing this tune for years. They invested two top-10 picks, a 2nd round pick, a 3rd round pick, and a couple relatively expensive free agents in the offensive line. And nothing has changed. How many more years should they keep building the bones before it's acceptable to invest in a QB not named Daniel Jones?
