Maybe the Giants shouldn't draft a QB in the 1st round

So far, looking at this draft class, I've been open to this line of thinking. It's too early to make that call, but right now the second tier QB's should be looked at long and hard. I'm not enamored with anyone right now of the top five.
"There is a greater purpose...that purpose is team. Winning, losing, playing hard, playing well, doing it for each other, winning the right way, winning the right way is a very important thing to me... Championships are won by teams who love one another, who respect one another, and play for and support one another."

They invested two top-10 picks, a 2nd round pick, a 3rd round pick, and a couple relatively expensive free agents in the offensive line. And nothing has changed. How many more years should they keep building the bones before it's acceptable to invest in a QB not named Daniel Jones?

Also, the healthy line that DJ enjoyed early this season (before Thomas went down) was top 10 in pass blocking. That type of performance likely doesn't demand the complete overhaul the now injury-ridden version might suggest. The bones are there for some success.

Well said, Whoever it is.

If they like Milroe and were projected Sanders or Ward, take who you like, and take with conviction

Exactly, they will need a new RG, but get a backup swing, and another on the inside, and they will be a little more prepared for injuries, and then we are fine. It isn't that far along like some make it out to be. how people expect to  maintain the same level of play minus an all pro and more, astonishes me.

The early season OL was a better pass blocking unit than the prior year.  I saw them as adequate and maybe headed for a little more than that if they stayed healthy.

I am not thrilled about how that unit was constructed though.  Giants have selected 4 (3 in early rounds) OL in Schoen's 3 drafts.  Only one of them is starting and most would agree he has been a little disappointing thus far.  The other two early round picks look like they are not even quality depth.

Using cap resources to cover up for poor draft picks is less than ideal and probably not a formula for long term success.

RG is signed through this season
RT signed through next season
LG signed through 2026

They have work to do for the next several years not just to get depth, but to retain/replace starters

I'd do this for the coming offseason

Our own Free Agents-

Resign to minimal deals

Lawrence Cager
Isaiah Simmons
Matthew Adams
Casey Kreiter
Chris Manhertz
Van Roten
Aaron Stinnie
Dyontae Johnson

Letting Pinnock, Slayton, Jackson, and Gilliam walk among others

Free Agency-

Sign Trey Smith Guard to a Runyan deal

Sign Paulson Adebo to play #2 corner

Sign Walker Little to play swing tackle on a minimum deal

Sign Chase Young as our 3rd pass rusher

Sign Javon Holland Safety to a lucrative deal opposite Nubin

Sign Justin Fields to a 2 yr minimum contract

Draft- Giants trade their 1st overall pick to Tennessee at #4 for their 1st overall pick this year, next year, plus a 2nd this year and 2 4th round picks this year.

4 Travis Hunter CB/WR- teams ahead of us pick qbs and Mason Graham. Hunter gives us a lock down #1 to pair with Phillips, Adebo, Banks, Holland, and Nubin to make a legit secondary.

33 Walter Nolen DY- Was considered the best player out of high school for a reason. He completely wrecks games even if the stats don't pop. Him and Lawrence together would be a nightmare.

36 Jalen Milroe Qb- The Alabama Qb has had his ups and downs but he's raw and with talent. You can use him as a weapon even if he doesn't pan out at Qb and you now have the extra picks to get your guy next year if needed

65 Landon Jackson Edge- The only bright spot on the Arkansas team annihilates opposing offensive gameplans

102 Andrew Mukuba Safety has had ups and downs but was a top 10 prospect this time last year and has talent to be great at the next level.

105 Poo Paul LB- Down hill ferocious linebacker with crazy speed and intelligence

134 Deone Walker DT- a mountain of a man at 6'6 345lbs he's a space eating force

156 Rocket Sanders RB- Was elite for 2 years straight but had an injury that set him back this year and dropped his stock.

218 Mason Taylor TE- He seems to go unnoticed by the majority of scouts and we pick up our TE of the future late.
247 Jimmy Horn Jr Wr- the burner from Colorado is a work in progress and worthy of a grab in the last round before priority Free Agency hits.

I have wanted them to sign Trey and Adebo for awhile now, and I am a big fan of Raheim Sanders and Deone Walker, hard for me to argue with this. I don't think Hunter lasts to 4 though

There's a lot to be said for the rest of the team buying into their guy too.

Psychology is huge, if they believe in the signal caller, the team will find another 10% and more.  Below average becomes serviceable, Average becomes good, good becomes great.

I know it's not that simple but the fact is more than any other sport, football relies on one position.

You might bust taking a QB, you might not win but you sure as hell cannot win in the modern NFL without one.

Pick the guy they like, pick with conviction and go all in.

Jess - aside from Milroe your entire draft is defense.  Giants only scored 20 points or more in 4 games.

I like the Trey Smith signing to shore up Guard but we have major problems at both tackle positions.  Thomas cant stay healthy which means Neals gets into the lineup and disaster strikes.

If Giants do not draft a QB early in round 1 (I am 100% ok with that) then we have to consider an OT either in beginning of round 1 or somewhere upto round 3.  I like Walter Nolan in round 2 so happy to land an OT after that but we have to draft one by round 3.

Hi, Doc.

Why, when they finally have a front line good enough that a QB isn't wiped out for the season in the first two games.

The QB is not the problem for the OL.  The OL is the problem for the OL.

The QB is its own separate problem.
