Quote from: LennG on December 22, 2024, 04:49:46 PMWould you say the same thing if Daboll had Daniels as his QB, or Nix or Penix or any decent QB? Would the Giants be the worst team in the league? How can anyone really coach and win when he had maybe the worst QB in the NFL to work with? Now that Jones is gone, everyone turns their wrath on the staff, like they can miraculously make this a better team. Washington was worse than we were last year. The draft gave them a QB and now they are in the hunt for a playoff spot. How would Dboll do with Daniels as his QB?
Lenn: so are you saying the Giants are just a QB away and they'll be fine?

Washington improved their defense and offensive line a/k/a supporting cast.

I didn't say they would be fine, but I seriously think we have a decent core of good players, once they get off IR. If we can add a few pieces AND a good QB, we can be compe titive next season and hopefully a playoff team in 2.
I HATE TO INCLUDE THE WORD NASTY< BUT THAT IS PART OF BEING A WINNING FOOTBALL TEAM.

Washington was a laughing stick past few years. They get a QB and everyone looks better and the front office and coaches look smarter.

Pick the right QB. Sanders or Ward. That's the debate for the next 3+ months!

I don't think there's any way Daboll can return and neither should Schoen. After three seasons, the team has gotten worse each year.

This is what it boils down to.  Yes, there's the QB situation but when it comes to the eye test this is an absolute dumpster fire.  Sure, you want the first pick at this point but this looks like Division 3 college team.  It's not even remotely competitive or competent.

Quote from: Trench on December 22, 2024, 05:15:18 PMI think RG3 brought a lot on himself. I'd love to see an established guy.

And that's no longer Shanahan.

Unless it was Kyle Shanahan  !!!

Quote from: Trench on December 22, 2024, 04:14:37 PMIf Daboll somehow comes back next year and turns this thing around, would it be the greatest sports coach turnaround in not only NFL history (but in all of sports history)?

I wonder what the greatest coaching come backs are?

To be fair to him; He did want to change QB last summer and draft Daniels, it just didn't happen.

And he was frustrated with Jones for a number of months.. not to say years.

We have to stop blaming Daniel Jones.  He is not on the team and they are still losing and even look worse.  Is that because they have bad backup QBs?  Whose fault is that?  Yes, Dabs and Schoen.

This team is in ruins.  Nobody is playing hard.  Lay the blame where it belongs in both Brian Daboll and Joe Schoen.  People need to stop pointing at one attribute to say "Joe Schoen deserves to stay because of 2024 Draft."  No because for 1 thing he did well, he failed on 4 others.  It's not a good ratio.  Same with Daboll.  Coach of the year in 2022 to worse record each year thereafter.

Fire this group and start over.  How can anyone who watches them play think otherwise?  It's not just QB play or offense play or this or that.  It's everything.

Excellent post. I was all in on the mistake of Jones from day one and as a result the coach's blunders were hidden somewhat. Now that Jones is gone, Daboll's incompetence is front and center. I don't know where and why defenders say "Well if he has his QB?" What is his track record to say he is truly a QB whisperer? The Giant QBs are awful and never improved under his tutelage. Not to mention, I don't want a coach who is just focused on the QB. That's what the QB coach is for. The head coach is responsible for all aspects of the team, including hiring of his staff. In that regard, along with the QB mess, Daboll has been an utter failure. There is absolutely nothing to defend the job he has done.

Moreover, if we do bring Daboll back and draft a QB, and the result is a losing season that gets Daboll finally fired, congrats, we've repeated the whole Barkley/Jones loop with Nabers and the new QB.

Messiah717

Yup, you can't watch this mess and think it's only a QB situation.  The talent is across the board poor.

AYM

Moreover, Daboll has stunk as an OC his entire career outside of having Josh Allen, who looks just fine without him.

He's not even as good as Pat Shurmur.

Well said.  Nothing to defend the job he has done.  If Mara retains him "for the sake of continuity", it will be like giving Daniel Jones the new contract "because we screwed this kid up" before.  No, stop compounding a mistake with another mistake.

It is time for a reset.  Mara should bring in 1 or 2 folks with clear brilliance in organizational construction to help them select a great GM and HC.  If not, look to the places where success seems to reside.  No not Bill Bellicheck's tree as that has been nothing but failures.  Look at John and Jim Harbaugh's coaches and ideally someone who coached for both like Jesse Minter.  This guy on defense is what Bill Bellicheck was in 1985 -- brilliant.

Giants should look at Ravens front office for a GM candidate.  I am sure there's a rock star there somewhere.  How about this?  Ozzie Newsome has been there forever as now head of football.  Pry him away with a lot more money to oversee everything and let him pick the GM.

guys generally got a longer leash back then. we live in the instant gratification age. if you dont get results quickly and stay progressing, you are gone.
