Sam Darnold.. If he has a deep playoff run and good play would want the Giants to consider signing him ?

killarich

If he goes on a deep Playoff run ...... and Vikings decide to run with JJ next season considering the Giants just shot themselves in the foot.... Would you consider signing him ? If of course he would even come here

Hes on pace to having a 4,200 yard season with maybe 35 TD's

We saw today what Nabers can do with good QB play...

Idk I'm bummed out about what happened to our draft position

But would you like or hate this idea ?

Or would you consider trying to trade for JJ

MightyGiants

There is talk the Vikings may keep him.

I don't blame them... look at the season ... More impressive then the year we beat them

Do you think JJ gets put on the block ?

The Vikings are the perfect spot for him. Of the teams who need QBs, the Jets might be the best for him, but he's not going near there.

I think they'd keep him as a cheap backup. He can be their Jordan Love and sit for a few years.

I hope Giants go big for Darnold. Jones contract was set up for a salary cap out and i think they can make it work.  AT and Nabers gives him a good landing spot and a top 10 pick can help the defense.  I think they will be a playoff contender for the life of the contract and anything can happen in the playoffs with the season being too long.

Think Sam will want to stay with O Connell,...why not? He fits perfectly there with the Vikes....franchise him at the least.

The Giants really need the advantage of a QB on a cheap rookie contract

They have $87M in available cap space next year; plus, their defense is VERY young and won't require significant capital for a few more years.  So, they can sign him to a Baker Mayfield type deal, if they chose to. Yet, I like your notion of franchising him much better.  I think thats the prudent move, Spider.

I think people understood the Jets ruined Darnold
I think teams will.sign him for 3 years

Is the way ahead to fail better next season to have a chance of talented rookie qb in 2026?  If so, then why not sign today's QB to a cheap long term deal?  If he performs badly then they win the QB lottery.  If he happens to develop then the giants would be in great shape. If the fear is he might be good enough to not fail badly enough then who would be better at it? Whomever that person is, you'll have the answer to the preferred starting QB thread.

For those who just watched the scene in the Vikes locker room, I don't see how anyone could conclude that they will move on from him.

Even if he has a bad playoff game and they go 1-and-done, I don't see that changing their feelings about him given the season he had and the obvious rapport he has with O'Connell, Jefferson, and Addison.

And it wouldn't surprise me if they re-sign him and don't look to move McCarthy. If someone wows them, I'm sure they'd move him. But coming off a lost season and the likelihood teams would be looking to lowball them, holding McCarthy for insurance would be a great problem to have.

Just speculating, but I could see them tagging Darnold and keeping McCarthy. It's a little awkward, but they can make it work cap-wise, and it is frankly less awkward than letting Darnold walk after the season he's had there only to watch him go crush it somewhere else. Especially if McCarthy ends up just being average or worse.

It's exactly what I would do.  If JJ performs well in the pre season, or in relief effort, you create some protentional trade capital.  If Donald's season was fluke, you still have JJ.  It's a wonderful position to be in...

That's not a bad option, Dave. I could see them selling it to Darnold as "you get $40 million now and then still hit FA as a 28 year old."

He would likely look for some kind of gentlemen's agreement that they wouldn't tag him twice. But I could see it possibly working for both sides.
