Quote from: Philosophers on January 05, 2025, 09:26:22 PMApparently he made some very bad tactical in-game decisions which exposed his inexperience.

Was Kraft not expecting some year one "inexperience" when he made the decision to promote a guy to head coach who has never even been a coordinator (let alone a head coach at any level)?

I can understand the firing a lot more than I can understand the hiring itself in the first place.

Not my problem though - I am pretty well stocked up with those myself as a Giants fan.

You have to believe that with Vabel on the market, that had to come into play in this situation.
I HATE TO INCLUDE THE WORD NASTY< BUT THAT IS PART OF BEING A WINNING FOOTBALL TEAM.

Vrabel was available last year when they hired Mayo. I don't think Vrabel even interviewed for the Patriots job--he talked to the Falcon and Chargers in the 2024 offseason and they both didn't go for him. Strange decision to now hard pivot to the guy.

Just to let everyone know, there are serious rumblings about some NFL teams wanting Sarkisian bad. That he would be at the top of some lists if they fire their coach etc. Thoughts are that Texas might as well be a pro team with everything that goes into that job.

Plus as a quick reminder Sark was OC for the Falcons in 2017 and 2018.

For reference in 2017 the Falcons had the 8th most yards and 2018 they had the 6th most yards in the NFL. Not bad.

I am not sure how the Jag's GM survives.  He is one of the worst GMs in the league, in my opinion

Sounds like the Jaguars HC job is open to candidates who will be able to pick their own groceries to make dinner.

Jags owner is supposedly good to work for in terms of patience and hands off approach.  The elephant in the room for this one is whether you think the QB can/will improve.  With his contract the team is tied to him at least through 2026.

Even if you think he can improve, will he be able to really compete with Allen, Mahomes, Jackson etc as one of the best in the AFC?

Lawrence was about as much a consensus #1 as I can remember and he simply has not turned into anything resembling an elite QB

Quote from: H-Town G-Fan on January 05, 2025, 09:11:50 PMI would be. Belichik had his crony Mike Lombardi out there skewering Mayo in the media for ostensibly blaming some of the teams issues on the prior leadership (right before Mike took a job with Bill, of course).
Ahh....I hadn't heard that. I guess not then.

I'd want them to get rid of Baalke, though. He's terrible.

Besides giving up over 40 points to the Giants, I heard more than a couple of NFL people say he runs a very simplistic easy to beat defense

I completely agree. Just by itself the Lawrence contract was a total disaster whose damage is only just getting started, but this guy has gotten so much more wrong too. He is terrible. I equate him to Dave Gettleman. Maybe even worse, as Gettleman at least picked a couple good players.
