Trench has a fair point as do the critics. Hyatt's best moments with us so far were as a rookie with Tyrod Taylor throwing deep balls. He might be limited but if we have a QB who can throw deep on schedule he can offer something that we have only glimpsed. It is make or break year 3. It will be a pleasant surprise if he can come through.

I just dont see it...

Matt - thank you for the compliment.  It goes both ways as I love your thoughts on different things as well.

I have developed a Hyatt bias due to his quickness and ability to catch the ball.  What I have failed to consider is that in spite of that, maybe he just has not developed the other parts of his position like better route running.

It's a bias I will let you because you are right.  He'd be playing if he did the right things.

Was I the only one feeling that Schoen was extremely nervous in his presser?

When asked some very pointed questions, his voice started to get very trembling.

Well, after Mara destroyed any meaningful ability to negotiate by publicly mandating a franchise QB this off-season,he had to try to close the portcullis again somehow.

As you often ask me-  Can you give us the cliff notes?

It breaks down several routes to illustrate either he was a decoy, or was lazy or wasted steps in his route, was open but the QB DJ didn't seem to trust him or Daboll made him the third read which the QB would never get to.

My evaluation of him if I may add, is that he relies too much on speed and they limit his type of routes. There are times I've seen him get worked to the sideline with no space, instead of starting his route instead to work out.

I believe that by this time he should have been able to run clean routes. That's either on him or his position coach, but most likely on him. I also believe that his type of routes such as deep slants, posts and go routes/back shoulder take time to develop and the QB in this team doesn't have time to get to that third progression. If the QB doesn't get that pass off on the second hitch, he's either swallowed up, moving within the pocket or bailing and the deep option isn't the checkdown.

I was actually impressed with the evaluation. He illustrated a shallow crosser where Hyatt may have been the cleanout, but he jogged through it and although he was open, he could have been wide open. Same on a deep slant. He also pointed out that in a couple of plays he cleared out for Nabors to get open or the priority was the First Down and not him.

To throw him away and classify him as a bust is lazy and assuming. Having the Coaches film review tells the story.

Quite frankly, Daboll hasn't done him any favors. His third year of a four year salary makes him either trade bait or an easy cut. It will be interesting to see if Schoen resigns Slayton who has improved his game and has proven to be a good veteran leader, or go with the young buck. I like the kid. I think he's a great teammate, but he may be better off in Buffalo, Indy, or New England.

To make a long story, longer than it needed to be. Sorry for the short story, but there's a lot of issues and nuances attached.

His third year of a four year salary also makes him a cheap project WR to retain. With at least 2 new QBS, upgrades to the OL and possibly a new play caller lets see if he can be utilized better. If Slayton walks we are seriously running out of receivers.

I think they keep one or the other. Slayton or Hyatt but probably not both. And I'd keep Hyatt. Like was mentioned I saw him play well as a rookie. Witnessed it with my own eyes. I don't understand why that wouldn't have gotten him at least some chances!

He is not the type to knock players publicly.  His way of saying he is disappointed in Hyatt would be if he is cut.

What kind of pay cut will Slayton take because he is not a $6 million a year player. But Julien Love sure was.  :cuss:

Slayton was interesting.  According to Nabers, he was a great veteran leader in the locker room.  His drops were maddening.  Slayton was very productive when Daniel Jones was here but vanished when DJ was benched.

Do you keep him around as the veteran leader of the WRs, or do you move on?
