Why Justin Fields Should be the Giants' No. 1 Free-Agent Target

Giants need a QB. That is so obvious a blind man can see it. IMO if we were to choose a QB in this draft it could spell  "Daniel Jones 2.0". Why would this not apply to Fields then? It would to some degree, but we could help him with our pick by not using it on a QB in the 1st round. We could use the 1st pick on anything or trade back to acquire more picks. Add to the fact that Fields is not a rookie, he has had some really good games and some not so good ones too. We have 4 years of film on him to see the mistakes and supposedly have a HC (Daboll) who can correct them. Joe Scheon missed out on a few FA Quarterbacks that could have help our team. To me Justin Fields could be our Baker Mayfield. Looking at his stats Fields is heading in the right direction, he currently 25 years old and will be 26 in March, still young, and looks like he will command about 10 million a year. Cheap by todays QB market.

Justin Fields:

2021  he had 1,870 yards, 7 TDs with 10 INTs rookie season

2022 he had  2,242 yards  17TDs with 11 INTs

2023 he had  2,562 yards with 16TDs with 9 INTs

He was released and went to Pittsburg

2024 He had 1,106 yards with 1 INT and he didn't plays all the games.

I would sign him to a 3 to 5 year deal.

I mean if we are going on stats brissett has played significantly better ball at points and will be cheaper.

I don't see darnold as a real option financially, and Russell Wilson because he's trash now.

I'd take Brissett, Dalton, Jimmy G(who spent the last year with Mcvey), and probably even Lance before Fields because we are going to end up in the same situation with a qb that can't through down the field. If we go bridge qb then at least give me someone that'll chunk it.

Just imagine we let the perfect bridge qb leave last year over 1.8 million.

A QB signed to a 3-5 year deal, isn't a Bridge QB as I would define it. How do you define it?

No way I would sign him to a 3-to-5 year deal.  At best, he get's 2-years, and the second year has a limited cap hit.

Ed, I am hoping he could turn out to not be a bridge QB, but yeah I get what you are saying. My way of thinking is locking him up cheap for at least 3 years. If he balls out, it could be a steal. Worst case? An expensive back up

If you thought Jones processing was slow then you will be really impressed with how slow Fields processing is.

If Fields didn't excel in the steelers offense then I doubt he becomes the magic man in NY.

What about the quarterback whisper? Daboll

Personally, I think the Steelers may just move on from Wilson and keep Fields. Wilson's best days are way behind him, and Fields still offers youth.

I HATE TO INCLUDE THE WORD NASTY< BUT THAT IS PART OF BEING A WINNING FOOTBALL TEAM.

Why would you want Daboll to whisper to a Qb that you already know can't throw the ball or go through progressions? It's basically like him inheriting ANOTHER coaches broken Qb AGAIN.

If you were the GM after two horrendous seasons, knowing you were locked into someone else's QB, then an expensive contract doubling down, would you lock up two or more seasons in another failed QB, hopeful he can be resurrected? Or would you sign a Warner to mentor the QB you draft, be it Sanders, Ward or Dart?

By the way, this just popped up.

We was never released. It was a trade after Pickett demanded a trade after being demoted for Russ Wilson.

I was listening to former GM Ric Spielman talk about Fields this morning.  He described Fields as an athletic QB who can run, but he struggles to get through his progressions.

2 year deal tops, maybe 3 if the price is right I guess.

I would expect a Tyrod Taylor type of ballpark for contract. So we'd be look at 2/$11M-ish

Now if he somehow didn't have a market and he'd take less APY, I would entertain a 3 year deal.
