Quote from: Ed Vette on January 19, 2025, 11:36:07 AMI didn't watch the whole game. I came in late and left when Campbell ran that stupid trick play on 4th down.

I saw the player pushing and yelling at his position Coach on the sidelines.

It seemed to me that the Defensive game plan by Detroit was bad.

Taking nothing away from Daniels and the Commanders, it looked like Detroit gave this game away by being undisciplined and out coached. The Lions should win that 9/10 times.

My one reservation with Drafting Daniels was his ability not to get broken. He's done a great job avoiding injury. So far.

The Commanders deserve a lot of credit for the smooth development of Daniels and for playing well as a team. They are no longer the easy win in the Division. The Giants are. For now.

I do believe like JClay that the right QB and a few additions, and they can be a much better team. I would be surprised however at a 2025 turnaround.

Daniels looked buttery smooth; the situation was not too big for him.  In addition to rare physical gifts, he also has innate leadership abilities.  In short, he has "it."  It sucks, if not for a few meaningless wins, he would be a Giant....

Goff had an off-night, and as good as he is, continues to struggle in big games; thus, further justifying the Rams trade.

I did not see an insult directed at you or anyone else.

I did see criticism of other perspectives, which is perfectly fine. There will always be disagreements. Labeling them as an attack is routine for you. But it doesn't make it so.

Disagreement is allowed, critsizing people for having a different perspective was never okay or allowed.

Please don't insult my intelligence.  There is differing views and then there are trollish comments

Do we want a forum of intelligent, CIVIL, and RESPECTFUL conversation, or do we want a forum where people just shout out their opinions and insult those who disagree?

You have frequently called me out saying I wasn't respectful enough or civil enough.  However, when it's people who share your extreme and negative views of our forum QB, you turn a blind eye to their trolling antics
I have no idea if there are thinly veiled comments without reading through an entire history of interaction. I can understand someone being directly disrespectful to you and starting xxxx. The thinly veiled interpretation however can be simply ignored, instead of starting a hornets nest over it.

As for anyone who is taking cheap shots at Rich for his posting history... you need to stop it. It serves no purpose other than to bring this site down to a petty and sophomoric level. You may consider it payback for whatever reason, but it's not necessary and serves no purpose other than drama.

I did not see anyone called out or criticized or insulted.

Because you receive it as an attack or insult doesn't mean that it was.

If you need more moderators on staff who see it as you do, I will gladly step down.

To the points I put in bold:

Imagine being so insecure that you need to mock others to pump yourself up.  Wait, we don't have to.

Also, to your commentary about good QB trumping all, have you seen the Eagles play?  They have been quite successful even when their QB is average at best because of Barkley.

Why are you attacking my character - I'm not insecure. It was an observation. One that can be evidenced by the numerous spinning narratives over the past couple of years.

Your response is as hardly a respectful or civil. But I'm not at all surprised.

Anyway, I'll leave you with the last word. As I'm out.

Oblectively accusing posters of spinning narratives to save face or saying how amusing you feel other people's well informed opinions are the opposite of respect discussion or disagreement.  If people want those types of childish put downs they can go to the cesspool that is Twitter.  We are supposed to be better than that.  It's what we promised to attract people to our forum.

You are the owner of the BBH, John Mara, if you will.

If I am not doing the job you need me to do as a moderator or you feel that my perspectives aren't aligned with yours, do what you feel is right in the best interest of your site, Rich.

I'm not taking sides as this discussion is beyond us at this point but people's narratives did change once Jones was cut. Ed likely wasn't referring to you, and probably talking about SDX who put his neck out there with his individual threads on Jones any time he remotely had a pulse and then did a complete 180 once he was cut.

What Ed said was very upfront, blunt, and honest. I also didn't see any mods trying to tell people to chill out when I was called a hater, troll, or anti giant fan because I had the opinion that Jones wasn't a good qb even before 2022. It was regularly an ok thing to have people plaster me with insults about my intelligence and when I posted stats proving my point I was just cherry picking to fit my narrative.

So if we are going to be civil let's always be civil, not just occasionally. The Jones conversation is beneath us all and behind us at this point. Let's move forward and really dig into the offseason and the future, not looking at the rearview.

I pretty much agree with everything you wrote, but will just add that I think it's important for the organization (i.e., John Mara) to take a step back and really think about what happened over the last 6 years with Daniel Jones. It isn't that the Giants failed Jones at any point. He was always a flawed QB and not in the same league as a guy like Jayden Daniels. I would hate to see the Giants invest another 6 years in another QB experiment.

That's not his call. Its my call and you aren't going anywhere. I appreciate your contribution on the forum and behind the scene on the Moderation Board. This whole issue should not have been addressed on the forum to begin with. That's not on you.

As for veiled shots, I've had my share taken at me. I usually only address the direct ones. Most times I practice the pause. But I watch how those dudes deal with others because it's in their nature to do so. At some point, they go too far. And then they go away.

Look, it's hard to own a forum dedicated to a team that hasn't seen sustained success in over a decade.  I would say it's pretty much on par with being a fan of the same team.

That said, we shouldn't lose site of what makes this place special.  It's supposed to be a forum where people go to enjoy quality, intelligent conversations.   People reading posts should be smiling more than frowning or getting pissed off (the exception being when we are talking about the various failings of the team).

What makes this place special and why people want to post is because we have some really smart and well-informed fans.  We have a moderation team who is supposed to keep the discussion civil and respectful.  Social media is our biggest competitor, and they have a lot of advantages.  What we offer is just that: a place for long-form discussions with fans who know the entire roster, football on a deep level, and the team's history.   Being a member doesn't require all of that as we certainly should be welcoming questions, or if a person states an opinion based on faulty assumptions, we should be gently and respectfully correcting the same.

In other words, we should all be seeking (and I appreciate we all are not perfect, including myself) to achieve this:

And not get all upset if something appears to be a veiled shot on the surface. Give the other person the benefit of the doubt. 😆

Jeff,

I think it's the same people 13 years after Super Bowl XVI.  Being a Giants ages you quickly these days
