I would hate to lose him.

Schoen should have been fired and Brown promoted

@Ed Vette and @Brooklyn Dave,

Can you elaborate on why you think so highly of Brown as an assistant GM or GM candidate?

He's well bred from the successful Eagles Organization. I've heard him speak and he's intelligent and has a coaches mentality. He served in every important position of player personnel and scouting. Someone you don't want to lose. Mara should pay him to keep him and expand his title.

No disagreement here that he's well spoken and intelligent. I'm just unsure of what he has actually done in his time here to warrant a major promotion. The fact that he worked for the Eagles at one point isn't enough for me. What exactly has he contributed in the last three years? Schoen worked for the Bills during a very successful period there, during which they went from being awful to being a Super Bowl contender.

In any event, losing Brown and receiving picks is better than him staying and ultimately getting fired, which is more likely than not to happen if the Giants have another rotten season in 2025. It's pretty obvious that Mara will clean house with both hands if the Giants stink it up again. Looking at everything, I'd say that's distinctly possible. Personally, I'd rather get something than nothing. Two third rounders is meaningful.

Brown did not get the GM. The Raiders hired the Assistand GM of The Tampa Bay Bucs.

The reality is the Giants need to be successful before Brown becomes a truly viable GM candidate.  So don't count on those extra comp picks to turn things around.  All we can hope for is Schoen leans more on Brandon Brown.  I will say this, all through Hard Knocks and even looking at pictures from various things like the Senior Bowl, it appears Schoen and Daboll are the pair attached at the hip, rather than Schoen and Brown.

So I wonder how much of a say does Brown have in decisions and how things run.

Supposedly he was instumental in selecting Tyler Nubin but you can't believe what you read anymore.

With that in mind, you have to wonder if the real risk with Brown is not that he gets hired away to be a GM but that he leaves for a lateral move to go be an assistant GM at a better team, leaving us with the worst of both worlds (his departure plus no comp picks).

Assuming his goal is to be a GM as soon as possible, it would be hard to blame him for making such a move. In fact, I'd be a little surprised if he's not considering it. For example, who are the Commanders putting in at assistant GM after losing theirs to the Jets for the GM job? That guy was there for one year. He spent 26 years with the Lions. But because the Commanders had a good year in 2024 he's now an NFL GM.

Brown is wasting his time on the Giants, particularly now that his boss has about an 80% chance of being fired after 2025.

Is he allowed to leave for a lateral move?
Is he wasting his time if he would get Schoen's job if the later is fired?

Unless the Giants allow it, the only move Brown can force is getting a GM position.

That said, most front office and coaches have a defined contract length, usually 3 or 4 years.  This potentially could be the last year of Brown's original contract.  If he opts not to re-sign, then he could leave to take a position with any team he pleases.

I haven't seen any news confirming the Newmark hire. Is it official?

Not sure why Schoen gets the dirt thrown on him but Brown is held out like some hidden gem (who the dysfunctional Raiders didn't want)

For people are dumping on Schoen, which is fine and can be justified, I think Brown shoild take some lumps too.
