SMART, TOUGH, DEPENDABLE

From Simms to Eli (with an assist from Hoss) our Super Bowl Quarterbacks. Great defense and clutch QB performances...NY Giants Championship football.

I have an old profile still floating around: andrew_nyg....I am one and the same!

The NFL is like a great, big old boys club.  His fellow owners are hardly going to tell John that his nephew sucks, right to his face.  Plus, how much would other clubs really know about his nephew's ability being on the outside looking in?

I don't disagree, I just want to see how he can possibly be respected, given the lack of talent at some posiitions, and depth at others.

Mara is just a narccist at the end of the day, he will never admit the wrongdoings with the like of McDonnell and Barnes.

One reasonable follow-up question these guys could ask is something along these lines:

"Understood. So with Tim being so respected around the building, surely his input has influence. Given that's the case, and given he's good at what he does, why do we have the worst record in the league?"

We need to get a mic in your hands and get you in the building lol

We can bitch all we want, it changes nothing. All we can do is to stay positive and to hope that the situation, that is the team, improves in the future either through design, good luck, or combination thereof of.

Cheers!

If he's so respected, he should be getting GM interviews. Even Chris Mara interviewed to be GM in Atlanta once.

EDIT: He's getting tired of being asked - I think he should be asked more and more. The more pressure the better. Because the fans are tired of losing.

John Mara publicly questioned if the talent level of the team now is any better than when Joe Schoen and Brian Daboll took over.  Tim has been director of player personnel for the past 4 years.  I could find nothing on what degree Tim earned at Holy Cross (so his academics are weak).  I also asked Chat what a director of player personnel does:

An NFL Director of Player Personnel plays a crucial role in shaping a team's roster by evaluating talent, managing scouting efforts, and assisting with overall roster decisions. Their responsibilities typically include:
Key Duties:
  • Talent Evaluation
    • Assess college and professional players to determine their potential fit with the team.
    • Work closely with scouts to analyze player strengths, weaknesses, and potential contributions.
  • Scouting & Draft Preparation
    • Oversee the scouting department, ensuring thorough evaluations of college prospects and free agents.
    • Help create the team's draft board and provide input on player rankings.
  • Free Agency & Trade Analysis
    • Evaluate available free agents and trade prospects to improve the team.
    • Work with the general manager (GM) and coaching staff to identify roster needs.
  • Team Roster Management
    • Assist in shaping the 53-man roster and practice squad.
    • Monitor player performance and suggest roster moves or practice squad additions.
  • Contract & Salary Cap Considerations
    • Collaborate with the GM and salary cap specialists to ensure acquisitions align with the team's financial strategy.
  • Collaboration with Coaches & Front Office
    • Work closely with head coaches and position coaches to understand team needs.
    • Provide insights on player fit within the team's scheme.
Reporting Structure
  • Typically reports to the General Manager.
  • Works alongside Director of College Scouting and Director of Pro Personnel.
In short, they act as a key decision-maker in player acquisitions, focusing on scouting, team needs, and roster management to help the franchise succeed.

Seems like Tim played a major role in this team's complete lack of talent.  He was the assistant director for a few years before becoming director.

He's only got a BS or BA in a subject that is so irrelevant the Tim and the Giants keep what his degree is in a secret.  Tim has been in charge while the Giants have been bleeding talent.

I'm not sure he could even get an interview, much less serious consideration for GM.    We saw the same with John's brother, another GM wanna-be who couldn't get hired to be a real GM.

I don't disagree.

For the most part, I think our beat guys do a good job of asking pointed questions though and staying on top of controversial themes as much as they can. I've watched pressers of other bad teams (such as Carolina), and the reporters are teddy bears in comparison.

That said, these guys can only push so hard. If they tick the top brass off too much, they can get blackballed or otherwise significantly hamstrung by Pat Hanlon. That puts their livelihoods in jeopardy as their employer will eventually replace them with someone a little less aggressive.

I think the tweet is quite misleading. Mara doesn't scream and I don't think he's overly defensive - he just answered a question, he's seemingly tired about.

I think @DaveBrown74 asks a fabulous follow up though.

Conversely, they can then all run with the narrative that the Giants are closing off coverage because they're more interested in nepotism than winning ball games, and for a team that's bleeding fans as it is, that could be devastating.

That's true and a good point.
