With that said, I voted for Nabers.

I think Penix might be good. Possibly very good. I just have no trust in our medical and training staff keeping a guy healthy who had two ACLs (among other things) prior to age 23.

I get it....Nabors is a likely sure thing and Penix a risk but the upside for Penix is tremendous.  Like Phil Simms I was amazed by his accuracy and quick release against Texas.  It was amazing.

Along with my concerns about his durability, I was bothered by the way he looked in the biggest game of his life. It wasn't just an off day - he was terrible in that game. And anyone with an objective eye who watched that game will know that it wasn't just because he had some heat on him. I watched him make a number of very poor throws that were not attributable to pressure. He came up very small in a huge spot.

After he had faced a Pac-12 schedule that featured mostly opponents with mediocre or poor defenses, 2023 Michigan's D was the closest thing to an NFL defense that Penix had ever faced, and he simply looked bad. And it's not like he didn't have great weapons at his disposal. Plus he played all last season as an older college player, which at that age is a significant advantage. So that needs to be taken into account too.

I'm not saying he won't be good or that he isn't good. He is good, and he might end up being a good NFL QB, possibly better than good. But sixth overall for a QB with the risk profile he presents would have been a reach in my opinion. It would have been forcing a pick due to a positional need.

The Giants did their scouting and identified the QB in this draft that they wanted. They attempted to move up to get him but couldn't get it done (or weren't willing to pay whatever exorbitant price the Pats demanded, if a genuine offer was even made). You don't settle in that situation when you have a chance to get an elite, game breaking player at a premium position.

Isn't every QB taken early a big risk except for 2 I can think of off hand-

There are risks involved with every draft pick, and yes, in particular QBs are one of the riskier positions. Some QB prospects are riskier than others though, and that is the crux of the point here. Dave- I think Schoen/Daboll are setting you up for a switcherooo.  Talk up Bringing Jones back slowly and if Lock does well....he will stay out there

They will swap over to Drew Lock at the first opportunity....maybe even start the season with him

I have said for some time now that if Jones plays poorly he could get benched this year. That doesn't automatically mean Lock is a better QB right now.

I just know in my heart these two want their own QB, and they made shrewd acquisition in Lock.  I am anxious to see him in action   The most interesting story we have going.  I did read somewhere Lock was told he would have a chance to compete for the starting job.  Dont remember where Sorry

What facts are needed to post your opinion that you see a QB who is not flourishing.

Its my opinion and apparently the opinion of Schoen/Daboll as in the draft they were actively pursuing a replacement at QB.  I respect your opinion and respect your argument for the 2022 season performance of Jones.  Id love to know how/why he
fell so far so fast.  Ill admit I could not believe how bad things became in the beginning of the 2023 season
