I'm not crazy about the notion that pre-season games are primarily aimed at determining the final 53 rather than preparing the team to compete.
I'd rather be a disappointed optimist than a vindicated pessimist.

These games serve very little purpose.

The NFL should make these games free. First come, first serve in regards to seating. Last night's game was pointless.

I keep hearing we're going to add a really good Corner any day now. Hoping that's true, because we need the help.

Neal was getting beat like a rented mule last night so I'm curious as to who is seeing his alleged improvement. We paid a 7 overall, at this point, I wouldn't be mad at a 7th rounder in return.

QB room? I hear that the Browns are shopping DTR...if that's true he's better than both DeVito and Luck...and has the ability to hold it down if Jones gets hurt (or stinks again).

Last night was ugly, at best it was a bad night, at worst it exposes our serious lack of talent.

From Simms to Eli (with an assist from Hoss) our Super Bowl Quarterbacks. Great defense and clutch QB performances...NY Giants Championship football.

I have an old profile still floating around: andrew_nyg....I am one and the same!

I get that it's just one game, but at a macro level there were three takeaways for me last night:

(1) We lack depth in a major way. The fact that the Jets have guys like Tack McKinley on their 2s and 3s shows how loaded and deep their roster is. We don't have guys like that on ours. So again, if multiple of our starters get hurt, we're going to be in trouble. Better built rosters like the Jets, Ravens, Chiefs etc can handle injuries better.

(2) Our guys didn't look remotely ready or well-coached for this game. The Jets players looked hungrier and more organized. Am I reading into it a great deal? No, but the bottom line is it's the same coaches who will be coaching our team all season.

(3) Our QB room is the worst in the NFL. Certainly bottom three. At least as it stands right now. We can choose to believe that Jones will suddenly surprise and be something he has never been six years into his career, but outside of that belief, it's a mess. Lock stinks, and DeVito is just not good.

Some of us thought that Lock would compete with DJ and it was apparent that he wasn't close to the same level as Jones from what we saw. A team is only as good as it's depth because players get injured and miss time. If Okereke goes down, he can't be replaced but at least they have the means of not having a liability at the ILB position. If Jones goes down, Lock has to show he can replace him. If Elumenor goes down, Ezeudu and Neal will struggle. If Banks goes down, the secondary is screwed. I was appalled at the backup O-Line against the Jets, who have backups on the D-line that can start on many teams. You and Andrew are spot on.

I have read here that some think Schoen has gotten players here than what he inherited with the Giants.  I am not sure that is true anymore nor that Daboll and his staff are doing anything to develop them.

I'm sorry but after 4 missed tackles last week and the miss on the TD run for the Jets last night, Darian Beavers has the "Worst Tackler" award locked down.  ~X(

Doesn't the coaching get some of the blame for poor tackling? All last season I saw defenders trying to knock the ball carriers own without grabbing and pulling them down. To me that's a coaching technique. I just hope it was a Wink problem and they are getting better coaching now. Holmes and Beavers might be the ones who aren't adjusting.

Quote from: Trench on August 24, 2024, 11:46:27 PMIt seemed to me the Giants o line looked fairly better with the backup Center playing last couple games

Van Roten is a better Center than JMS right now.  Jury is out on whether JMS lives up to his draft position.  Van Roten at Center, Stinnie at RG, Eluemunor at RT, Thomas and Runyan on the left side - that's our best OL right now.

Jest QBs are much better

I don't think there was anything to assess last night. The Giants couldn't do anything and the Jets only managed to win 10-6 due to a missed tackle. The starters for both sides, for the most part, did not play. I'll say the Jets 3s on Defense are much better than the Giants 3s on Offense, particularly along the lines. That's about it. If anyone wants one of them, about half of them will be on waivers next week.

I'm ready for real football. I agree with others that last night was an audition for players to make a case to be claimed and put on some team's practice squad, if it was even that.

Just another three hours of my life I'll never get back.  :Faint:
