Quote from: Brooklyn Dave on November 26, 2024, 06:14:57 PMWhat if the Giants win 2 games under Kafka ( Saints, Colts ) and they fall to 5 or 6 in the draft ? Then what?
Then they still have a top 10 pick and should very able to draft a top tier player. So what if it's not a QB, the QB is just going get crushed due to an amateur hour offensive line anyway, but at least you'll be able to tell if they have something in Kafka.
Without getting some actual pros to protect any QB on the roster, they're going nowhere.
Just my opinion of course.

Why are folks talking about Kafka as HC?  He got banished.  Why is he HC material now?

WE NEEDED an actual NFL starting QB. I will not forget that we would have won more games THIS season if we had one. Commodes (even without a kicker), Cowplops, Bengals, Steelers and the final nail in the DJ coffin, the Panthers. We would not be 2-9 with a NFL QB. Too late now. The damage has been done. I could go into the reasons. But you all know them.

Dabol designed plays to get guys open. DJ didn't throw it or missed completely.

I want to give these guys at least another year.

Schoen will get another year, but his lack of cojones in doing the right thing when he first got here and after 2022 troubles me. You don't come into a rebuild and retain a mediocre QB. You start from scratch. I see nothing in Daboll that resonates as quality head coach material. I wanted him to succeed, but the lack of motivation, discipline and preparedness is more that troubling. I'm afraid he is a Shurmer, Spags, Norv Turner who can be a good coordinator but can't handle the vast scope of being a head coach. Get rid of him at the end of the year or I guarantee we are right back here discussing this same thing next year at this time and we've wasted a year.

You're not alone in that opinion.

QB is obviously a need and, if they end up with the #1 pick, and choose a QB, it absolutely MUST be the right pick as the future of the team.

But that glaring risk at Left Offensive Tackle, that nobody wants to talk about, isn't going away and assuming that risk with Thomas will end the Giants up similarly to how this year has planned out; it MUST be addressed as well as fortify the other O-Line positions.

Whether or not Schoen makes the picks, or whether or not Daboll ends up coaching the picks are both irrelevant. The needs are obvious and the Giants need a plan to address both. If it takes the draft and free agency, fine. If it can all be had in the draft, then great. If it takes two drafts, that's not ideal but so be it.

I understand the defense has needs as well. But when Thomas was healthy, the Giants offense controlled time of possession in most of their games and the defense was fresh. So, finish fixing the line and figure out your QB and then take care of everything else.

Peace!

The more I think of it the more I want a NY Giants Blue Ribbon Panel lead by Parcells and Coughlin to make suggestions to ownership

You're a long time fan(your board name gives you away), and have vast experience with the Mara way. Schoen and Dabol are not the ones responsible for Jones' signing. It's all on Mara. The now where we are 2 yr out was a compromise. I can't believe that two people from outside the Giant sphere of influence came to the job holding Jones' ability as an NFL QB in esteem. We've all heard of addition by subtraction. Well the 22' season was subtraction by addition. The problem is now that we are in position there is no "Andrew Luck" type of QB draft able this year.

Yeah I am. Seen all the many Mara failures, father and son. A smart organization would have done what you and I know they should have done but Mara is not a risk taker or forward thinking. Sadly they blew it big time by not taking one of the three first round QBs available to them last year and instead took a talented diva WR who we knew would be at this time whining about not getting the ball when there was never anyone to get him the ball. You don't draft a WR and except him to win games for you when you are so lacking at QB.

I agree, Joe. The idea of Kafka at HC seems utterly farcical to me. He has been a totally unsuccessful OC who had the primary responsibility of his job taken over by his boss. He is nowhere near the level of being considered a serious candidate for an NFL HC position at this stage.

Here would be an interesting candidate for the President of Football Operations that I am advocating for.

Dawn Aponte's GM candidacy gains steam
If you've been keeping up with the buzz around the many expected general manager and coaching changes coming this offseason, you've seen the name Dawn Aponte, the NFL's chief football administrative officer, come up as a potential GM candidate. At first glance, some might assume her inclusion on these lists is about optics, a way for the NFL to demonstrate its commitment to diversity and women in leadership.

But make no mistake, her credentials are impressive, and the interest is real.

Teams are looking at Aponte as a potential GM or team president tasked with overseeing football operations. She's long been viewed in league circles as someone capable of taking on such a position. One league source described the value of Aponte as someone who would carry out ownership's vision while creating streamlined processes, forcing accountability, and aligning the organization at all levels. She doesn't have a scouting or personnel background but her leadership qualities and strategic mindset are what have some teams excited about her potential.

If she was hired, Aponte would focus on structure and alignment — two areas where struggling teams often fall short — while partnering with an experienced personnel executive to handle the roster-building side of things. It's a model that makes sense for teams needing a broader, big-picture approach to success. One coach who is interested in collaborating with Aponte texted: "She's a tough, no-nonsense leader with a better résumé and background in football than most of the men up for these jobs. This should be the year she gets a shot."

This wouldn't be new to Aponte; she's worked at the highest levels of the league, holding roles with the Jets, Dolphins, Browns and the NFL office, all jobs that required sharp decision-making, strategic thinking, and a deep understanding of football operations. Last offseason she interviewed for the Chargers' GM position, which ultimately went to Joe Hortiz.

Former Jets GM Mike Tannenbaum, who has worked with Aponte, was recently hired by the Jets to help with the search for their next GM. Those close to Tannenbaum say he has a mantra: "The winning edge is to do things differently, not just better."

No one in NFL history has put a woman in charge of football operations. Being the first team to do so — with a hyper-qualified candidate in Aponte — would certainly fit that philosophy.

TC didn't shake Mara's hand at his "retirement". Do you think he'd want to come back to help him?

You can spin it all you want. It says it right there on the NFL records - the Giants were a Playoff team and won a road game. The last I looked, there were no asterisks next to the record downgrading the accomplishment .

So for the first time in ten years, the Giants made the Playoffs which is the very definition of an ascending team. Now what GM in their right mind would tear it all down and start a complete rebuild? Not one

With no other options at QB, Schoen did what any other GM would have done. He signed his QB to a team friendly contract that slotted Jones as the 16th highest paid QB in the league.

As we saw in Hard Knocks - Mara offers his opinions but allows his people to make their own decisions. He is not a meddling owner and there is no proof to indicate otherwise in ordering Schoen to retain Jones.

Time heals wounds. TC has been back for various events since then. I am sure TC being the professional he is did not like the optics of that incident with Mara. He lost his wife who was very ill and I would think he would be able to invest a lot of effort.

I think some of you guys need a vacation, or therapy. The stress has taken its toll.  ;)

Truer words can not be spoken.

Soon it will all be over and we all can go on an extended vacation. Hey, just think, next Sunday I'll be on a cruise and I couldn't care less if I know the score of the game.
I HATE TO INCLUDE THE WORD NASTY< BUT THAT IS PART OF BEING A WINNING FOOTBALL TEAM.
