Right now would you exercise Thibodeaux's 5th Year Option?

MightyGiants

As stated, I voted with a weak yes.  I see the good points being said by the no voters.  I think part of the reason that I voted yes, is I am using the lesson learned from Daniel Jones.   The Giants passed on DJ's 5th year option not wanting to risk overpaying a player and instead overpaid a player because they had less information.

Yeah, the Giants might end up overpaying Thibs.  On the other hand, that seems to be a risk that is worth it, because the team would get another year of data before deciding on giving him a big dollar veteran contract.

It's not his fault he was drafted so high in a draft with no depth at the position. It is his fault that he hasn't developed moves to defeat at this level. The effort is there game day. It's a shame because he has a higher ceiling.

Do you see the ability to bend around the outside for him?

KT was never particularly bendy, and he was never really strong (bull rushes weren't his signature move).  He won by being quick off the snap and being okay to good with most pass-rushing traits.

i agree with most here. you dont want to have a situation where he explodes with 17 sacks next year and then have to compete with FA and pay him 30 million. will it go that route? not likely. but its insurance.

Any reason I can't see the results without voting again?

So a player that only steps up in his contract year?  That is enough right there to not exercise, but be ready to let someone else overpay him and regret it.

I vote for the 3rd option. Extend him to a team friendly deal this offseason before the due date on the option comes. Why must we always kick the can down the road 1 year with the 5th year option or franchise tag?

does anyone know what the trade possibilities are for a player with with year option ? Can:

trade him no...? what happens to option year for a new team

or does the with year option only available to the team that drafted him ?

sign him to the option and then trade him ?

just hater to see another potential player to walk without compensation.

but trade his butt .... period ....not working out in my opinion.

You would think he has the athleticism to do it.
He could make better use of his hands and arms.

So just continue this endless cycle of draft-trade-let go-start untested and raw rookies in key roles all over again instead of trying continuity for a change.  ~X(

d ends are a crap shoot to be picked that High....remember  Sweatman ? Chase Young ? all the rage at draft time /// both are no longer with the team that drafted them.

Hadron

I'd exercise the option and see what happens.

No. He is soft..loses direction..bulled over too much. And at 23..misses games too much. No. A failure.
