I read an article somewhere (???) that had an interesting thought. Could the Vikings trade JJ McCarthy, now that Darnold seems like a great fit for the Vikings? They are 11-2 with Darnold and are they really ready to pack him in and start over with a rookie?
This article suggested that MAYBE the Giants try to trade for him. What might McCarthy cost in a trade, already injured, maybe a 3? I know they passed on him in the draft, but many say he is still better than any of the QBs in next year's draft.
Again, just a thought, but if we could get McCarthy for a #3, we could draft Hunter #1 and that would be a great start for next year.

It's an interesting thought Lenn.  I was wondering if the Vikings might try and extend Darnold.  If they don't and next season doesn't go as well, that's going to be a tough one to swallow for fans.

If the medical is clear, I'd give a 2 and be happy.

His injury was to meniscus not ligaments so much better.

Doubt Vikings trade him especially for less than a 1st as he is an insurance policy in case Darnold is not the guy.

I like JJ more than Sanders or Ward so if I'd draft them with a 1st, I'd be fine trading a first.  Now you'd have JJ and Nabers plus your second and third to improve OL, CB or DT. 

I would find it hard to believe that the would give JJ away for anything less than a first round pick after using 6th overall on him. Obviously not our 1st which will be way more valuable but a team lower in the draft could easily out bid our high 2nd round pick.

Agreed. There's 0% chance the Vikes are trading JJ for a 3rd.

My gut tells me O'Connell is not convinced yet long term of Darnold.

No chance JJ goes for a 3. Forget it. How can anyone rationalize that?

We may be picking at the top of the second round. If the Vikes were actually interested in moving JJ, I could see that pick being the centerpiece in a trade. It might take a little bit more than that but since he's coming off a big injury and since a year of his rookie contract is gone, he's not worth what the same draft capital he was worth a year ago obviously.

Would I do it? Yes, probably. As someone else said, take Hunter and then do the JJ trade. I'd sign up for that for sure.

I just speculated with a #3, if JJ was cleared and the coaches wanted it, I'd do a #2. We can't do a #1 as we are [pretty much assured of at least the top pick or very close. Our #2 pick is almost like a low #1.

Maybe there is something the brass saw in JJ that they didn't want him last draft. I don't know, but as been said, he is probably better than anyone out there right now.

Jones can be Darnold's backup next year.                               

I'd do it for a 2 and 3.

I'd do it for a 1st any lower than 5th in the draft.

Maybe, but are the Vikings ready to 'start over' if Darnold leaves? Are they a 'win now' team or can they wait for the rookie to get used to playing in the NFL?

Been following the Vikings situation on their various websites. O,Connell recruited Daniel Jones heavily and was happy that DJ chose them over 10 other teams. Word is that Darnold is going to command a salary far out of the Vikings reach . JJ has been injured and even when healthy was years away from being ready for a full time role. Take what you want from that.
