A day or two to vent on here is not unreasonable but the sooner we can collectively move on from wallowing in the historic mess of our 100th season and re litigating the decision that Mara has just made the better it will be both for everyone's mental health and the quality, relevance and insight in the discussions moving forwards.

Personally I expected Mara's decision but cannot imagine it was easy for him. He will understand that many fans have already and will continue to vote their disapproval with their wallets. He and Tisch carry a huge financial risk if his faith is misplaced and the decline continues unabated. He has more to lose than anyone else if he has got this wrong again.

I share your doubts but our risk is another painful season or two. Mara-Tisch risk wiping hundreds of millions off franchise value if the dissatisfaction becomes open fan rebellion. You have to hope that will create more urgency, and accountability, behind the scenes.

Neal,

The only indication that such a thing (behind-the-scenes accountability) is happening is if Ronnie Barnes is gone.  If Ronnie is still here, Mara literally changes nothing and expects everything to get better magically.

Still, as you say, beyond a day or two of venting over yet another bad Mara decision, there is no point

Quote from: Rosehill Jimmy on January 06, 2025, 09:54:09 AMI've been mulling over what I'm going to say to Mara when I return my renewal request for the'25 season.  I think he solved my dilemma.

"Now that the season is over, I felt it necessary to make this statement.  After 63 years I will discontinue my role as a season ticket holder with this organization.  As disappointing as the results of this, and far too many seasons in the recent past, have been, I am no longer confident in whatever process you have in place. That process is one that cannot identify talent either for the front office, the sidelines or on the field. It is clearly flawed but it appears to me you are unwilling to undertake the often hard but necessary top to bottom evaluation of your ENTIRE organization.

I certainly hope that the team's fortunes change soon but I will no longer spend my good money supporting this wish"

Sincerely

I actually emailed my rep this morning telling him prices need to drop.  Explained that I literally gave away 2 games and couldnt give away 2 more that I could not attend.  As of now, I am willing to give it a year, but if next year is a disaster and I have to just eat the costs, then next season would be my last

You're not sitting a 40mil QB for an UDFA in DeVito and facing the sack. This would have been agreed prior to that move. The players played hard for Daboll, clearly he still has the dressing room.

Unwards and upwards, hopefully.

To that part in bold; are we sure we need to keep our DC?

The short answer is NO simply be the hasn't taught them to tackle.

Secondly, the lack of aggressiveness has contributed to the lack of turnovers. Soft defenses don't win championships

This is the right move. They deserve a chance to stay post DJ.

When they get the team down to 0-17, they will have nowhere to go but up!  ;)

This decision to retain Schoen and Daboll ranks as one of the three worst decisions this franchise has done ranking with trading Sam Huff to the Redskins, paying Jones $40 million and cutting him and not retaining Barkley.

Please someone tell me why this was the right decision.

Please do not give continuity as a reason , the team has gotten worse under Curly And Moe

Please don't tell me that they never had their own QB . Curly signed Jones for $40 million and the cut him and Moe had no idea to make him better.

Please don't say look at the last draft- LOOK AT the prior two years draft, bad to poor !!

How long do you give Curly and Moe to right the ship? Next January when we have another dreadful season , ( look at our 2025 Schedule) please don't tell me we need more time to develop our QB.

Mara and Tisch are just utter fools . I wish Pete Rozelle was commissioner and force Mara and Tisch to hire a competent president of football operations instead of allowing Curly and Moe to ruin this franchise.

Nice to see a different point of view.

The lack of Jones under Daboll ought to make a massive difference alone.

Exciting times ahead.

Saying that Daboll is the best coach since Coughlin ( McAdoo, Judge , Schurmer ) is ridiculous . You would probably be the best coach since Coughlin. I have asked this before but have not gotten an answer . How long do you give them? How many wins in your mind would be acceptable? No matter who we draft, we will have the worst QB in the division Next year we will be facing the likes of Mahomes, Herbert, Nix, Goff, Williams, Daniels, Hurst, Prescott, Love,  Darnold

Dave,

I read the article, but like you, I found it badly flawed.   To me, citing the exception to prove a rule is illogical.  So Connor cites people wanting Coughlin fired in 2005 as proof that wanting someone fired is wrong while ignoring people wanting later years Reese, McAdoo, Shurmur, Gettleman, and Judge fired.

Connor also ignores the reality that after 2022, DJ was a free agent.  Since Mara says Schoen and Daboll work well together, presumably, they were in agreement on signing him to a veteran QB contract.  So his DJ argument rings hollow.

Ultimately, a decision should be based on sounder principles, such as: Is the franchise moving in the right direction under Schoen and Daboll?  (Both Mara admitted that winning more games or becoming more talented did not happen.)   Perhaps the other equally important but unsaid criteria played a role: Are there better candidates available to replace them?  That may prove to be the saving grace for the pair (along with Mara's desire for continuity).

Then that line-up ought to give them more than a year. As on paper there are 0 wins there. Lucky for us, the game isn't played on paper.

We had the worst Qb in the division this year too. Our QBs would have been in the bottom tier across the league. It was putrid play, outside of one game for the vast majority of season.

Personally, I think it's fruitless sticking pointless win totals on the regime. Many variables go into winning or losing a game - not all is on coaches.

Secondly, my view carries no weight. So it's pointless.

Thirdly, whilst the non-published schedule looks daunting, it matters when you play the teams - are key players injured/out of form etc. again, another variable.

Put all 3 together and I ultimately think win totals are pointless.

Do I think the Giants will be better? Yes.

1. Lessons have to be learned by all concerned. Much like Jones last off season - they are out of excuses - put up or get fired.
2. That said, I'm expecting a good free agency period. We need good players all over the shop so we should plug some holes.
3. The third pick means they aren't reaching for a QB - they can let the board fall to them and take an excellent player. I don't envisage a move up.
4. I think they go the vet QB route. As Orr points out, even Rodgers (pretty much a disaster for the Jets) type production and this team would be on the cusp of the playoffs.

Since 2022, the Giants have not had adequate QB play on a consistent basis. They attached their wagon to the wrong horse, they exited that and can move forward.

And for those reasons, I'm very much looking forward to the off season and what it brings.

I accept that point of view isn't for everyone but whatever side you sit on. This regime is millstone free and simply have to produce. It'll be my bet that they will.
