Quote from: EDjohnst1981 on January 06, 2025, 09:19:16 AMI know it's a film but I enjoyed it and wanted to recommend it - Carry On on Netflix. A terrorist wants to get an illicit item on a plane but targeting a TSA Agent - worth a look, easy watch and under 2 hours.
I loved the first half but the second half seems like the writers got tired and just wanted to finish the film.

I'd give it a B-.

After years of hearing about how great The Wire is/was, the wife and I decided to watch it. Glad we did! It's definitely a must-see!

We're on the 5th and final season. Hope to be finished by the weekend.

It's a show I haven't seen but heard great things about. It's been on my list for a long time, so I should probably just take the plunge and start watching it.

It's on MAX (HBO) if you have a subscription.

Thanks. I do.

Once I heard that the finale of Landman was Sunday (today), I jumped in with both feet. Love it. Sheridan is the Babe Ruth of producing entertaining shows
The fact that Keith Richards has outlived Richard Simmons, sure makes me question this whole, "healthy eating and exercise" thing

Landmark was excellent, his best since the start of yellowstone and I love Tulsa king and mayor of Kingstown. Luckily 1923 comes in February and the Madison comes shortly after.

Watched on-call the new Amazon prime show this weekend, very digestible with 8, 30 minute episodes. A training officer and her rookie go on call in Los Angeles by the creators of law and order but because its streaming its like the hbo version of a cop show. Very good.

Also watched American Primeval on Netflix and holy smokes it was phenomenal. It was like 1883 meets lonesome dove meets a gritty HBO series. 8 episodes of people trying to go west from Texas through Mormon country at the peak of Brigham Youngs power and the conflict between the Mormons, Indians, and US military. Must watch if you liked 1883 or any western. The guy that did lone survivor, Friday night lights, the kingdom, and so directed.

Currently watching Bad Monkey on Apple TV+. I just finished episode 6 of 10. As is usual for a Carl Hiaasen-penned tale, it's a mix of equal parts Florida idiocy, comedy, and mystery, with a slew of some of the zaniest characters you could ever imagine thrown in for good measure. It'd be great if Apple TV would partner with Hiaasen in much the same way that Netflix has done with Harlan Coben. The rest of Hiaasen's books are just screaming to be made into quality short series like Bad Monkey.

I had always wanted to watch The Wire
I had seen the first season way back when but never had HBO to watch the rest. Watching it was one of the main reasons why I subscribed to MAX. It was the first series I watched when I got it and I was not disappointed.
It was a fantastic series all the way through thru.
Same as I have said for many great series, don't get attached to too many characters.
Enjoy the last season.
You are lucky that your wife likes that Doris wouldn't go anywhere near it.
I HATE TO INCLUDE THE WORD NASTY< BUT THAT IS PART OF BEING A WINNING FOOTBALL TEAM.

Just finished Landman this morning and it was a great watch. As I said before just the perfect vehicle for Billy Bob Thornton. He made the entire series. Like Stallone in Tulsa King, Thornton excelled in this series.
Highly recommend.

As mentioned before, I'm finishing up Bad Monkey on Apple TV+ and I've enjoyed the ride. Only a couple more episodes to go. As that series is winding down I've started Bookie on MAX. It's a comedy starring Sebastian Maniscalco (I'm a fan of his standup comedy), as a veteran bookie struggling to survive the impending legalization of sports gambling. I've only watched the first two episodes but it shows promise. There's been brief cameos in each of the first two episodes I've watched - Ray Romano in the first, and Charlie Sheen (playing himself) in the second.

I finished it last night. Loved it. I want more. I hope there are more seasons to come

As I laid in bed last night after reading several chapters of the latest book I'm into, I couldn't help but get some of the things from the show out of my mind. Then it hit me like a slap in the face; I know why Taylor Sheridan's tv shows have such a huge following and why people love them. He hearkens back to the same thing that made writers/producers in the 50's and 60's successful: "Machismo is back"! Yup, the John Wayne effect being brought back to television. Extremely tough men who take no crap from anyone...a divergence from most shows that blend social engineering into the plot. Machismo has become a rarity in Hollywood. But no matter what Sheridan show you watch, there will be so much testosterone in the shows that you can almost smell it through the tv...lol

One scene in Landman that made me literally laugh out loud. Tommy (Billy Bob) gets a call from his drop dead gorgeous ex-wife discussing whether she should come to west Texas to see her son in the hospital. All the while the discussion taking place, his ex (Michelle Randolph aka "Aynsley") is in high-flirt mode teasing him, but he doesn't ever take the bait (as all of us would...lol). She finally in her frustration says, "well, should I come or not"? His deadpan response was, "I could give a sh1t if you come or not"? and her reply was priceless, "well, if that doesn't sum up our marriage" (a little double entendre...lol). And the way he treated the female lawyer with rude comebacks over and over, rather than being impressed by a pretty woman was pure machismo

Yup, machismo is back. Any of the leads in the Yellowstone show and it's spinoff prequels (1883, 1923, and the upcoming 1944) have characters dripping in tough, no nonsense, male characters...from Sam Elliott to Harrison Ford to Kevin Costner. Old fashioned morality and persona...and the women are just as tough as the men. Machismo at it's finest

A little trivia: Billy Bob Thornton was Marshal Jim Courtright in 1883, and Michelle Randolph (Billy Bob's wife in Landmark) was Elizabeth Stafford in 1923

Sheridan gave Billy Bob a script and he said, "once I read the first script or two, it was like, 'Oh my goodness, this is my voice! '"... right in my wheelhouse

The fact that Keith Richards has outlived Richard Simmons, sure makes me question this whole, "healthy eating and exercise" thing

Steve, I'm sure you read Carl Hiaasen's "Bad Monkey", so I was wondering how closely you think the show has stuck to the original script. I thought it was pretty close and I thought casting Vince Vaughn as Andrew Yancey was sheer genius...but that's just me
