What they really think and what they say publicly can be 2 very different things.

I have absolutely no doubts that in the film room he knows exactly what to do and how to do it.

It's when he gets out on the field where the trouble occurs. He's certainly not the first and won't be the last QB with this infliction. But it doesn't appear to be curable.

Right. Classroom intelligence isn't the same as fast processing during a play.

I think a good analogy is how some chess grand masters struggle at speed chess. If you give them time, they can anticipate every possible move, but when the pressure of the clock is added they become one dimensional.

In golf they call this being a Ranger Rick, who can't take the practice range out to the course.  It also makes those blackboard sessions at the combine seem a little over-rated in their importance.
I'd rather be a disappointed optimist than a vindicated pessimist.

Not slowing my roll

Great analogy Doc. For a slower processing QB the simpler the reads the faster they can progress. Jones is defintely not élite in this category but he can be good potentially in a simpler system.

Again, this unwavering faith in a QB who simply lacks the chops to be a starter in this league.

Does he have the athleticism and work ethic? Sure. He's just missing that processing ability that starters possess. Davis Webb is a guy that had a lot of positive factors save for one: processing the field.
