""I'm not sure I'm all that confident" - John Mara on what gives him the confidence this team is better three years after Joe Schoen, Brian Daboll took over (roster) #Giants

Not exactly a ringing endorsement and if true, how can you justify bringing these guys back?
"I'll probably buy a helmet too because my in-laws are already buying batteries."
— Joe Judge on returning to Philadelphia, his hometown, as a head coach

Very simple: He doesn't have the balls to blow it up right now. And hopes for a better season next year.

But if we end up with a record that is anything BUT the playoffs they will be gone in 2025 I am sure.

But equally, you can't let a GM go after 3 years. A Coach, yes, but a GM, no.
And think of it this way: if Schoen would need to fire Daboll, you need to give the new coach at least 2 other years.

Therefore, Mara probably says to himself "we keep both, if they xxxx up, we blow everything up next year".

I agree. While it is a true fact that the Giants need to find a starting QB for years to come, this statement makes me think they will panic and things will be no better than they are today.
I sincerely hope I am wrong.

John Mara talking about Brian Daboll:

"I'm at practice all the time, I go to the team meetings, I watch the players and how they react. I still think he's the right guy to lead us. If I'm sitting here a year from now and you're asking me these questions, I'll take the heat. But, at the end of the day, we've got to make a decision and we've made one."

Quote from: MightyGiants on January 06, 2025, 11:34:44 AMI wouldn't say that.  It's pretty clear Schoen and Daboll are on the hot seat.  Overpaying for a QB prospect seems like the best way for Schoen to keep his job beyond 2025.

And this is a massive problem.  The benefit to the giants versus Schoen is disconnected.  There is a great chance that Schoen will take a QB no matter what knowing it'll quiet the fans and give hope.  Even though it could kill this franchise for another five plus years.  And it'll take a couple years minimum to see if the QB is a bust or not anyway.

Mara almost has to give Schoen two years to incent him to potentially delay a QB pick to next year.  I know we keep dragging this out more and more, but if we didn't win worthless games last year,  we wouldn't have to worry about a QB now.

The Giants have a killer schedule next year.  With a bridge QB it's likely they will be picking near the top and would be in striking distance of a good QB prospect in 2026

So what's the definition of hot seat here?

If they finish next season winning six games, but the skill positions and OL have vastly improved and they are loaded for the next draft to trade up and get a QB in two off-seasons, do they still get fired?

It's kinda chickenxxxx to keep them and immediately put them on the hot seat. If you have such little faith, YOU need to nut up and FIRE THEM!

Just more evidence that John has no clue and is looking to shift the blame.

Hey John, you can't have it both ways. If you're going to be accountable, surround yourself with pros who will hold you accountable.

You're ALL on the hot seat with this fan, and I don't see this getting any better.

From Simms to Eli (with an assist from Hoss) our Super Bowl Quarterbacks. Great defense and clutch QB performances...NY Giants Championship football.

I have an old profile still floating around: andrew_nyg....I am one and the same!

Agreed completely.  Which is why instead of Mara's faux anger today,  he really should have presented a united front with Schoen and Daboll about working together and giving them time to execute their vision.  Because if I'm Schoen after Mara's rant, I'm doing whatever possible to turn this around this year,  even though it would be smarter for the giants to build smartly,  have a bad year next year,  get their QB 2026 draft, and move forward. Schoen was scolded and now will act in a way that's not necessarily in the giants best interests.

One question I wish they asked Mara: Considering many draft experts do not see the top two QBs as worthy of top five picks,  and maybe not even first round picks,  would you consider overriding Schoen if he told you he was taking,  or heaven forbid,  trading up for Ward or Sanders.

John's problem is he is too nice a guy.  Sometimes, being in charge means making tough decisions.  Mara doesn't want to make the tough decisions that may hurt some of his employees/family, even if it would help the team.

Not trading away guys before the deadline

Not tagging Saquon a second time

Those are tough calls that are not well received by players

I truly believe this 100% is Mara

It's ridiculous to have such a hard schedule when we were 3rd worst in the NFL. System is flawed

teams play 6 games in division- Outside the Giants the rest of the division is very stong.

The NFC East plays the NFC North and AFC West (based on standard rotation), two other very strong divisions

The three teams that are by virtue of their standing in the division, are the Saints, Pats, and 49ers (who also finished last in their divisions)

I don't think it should be by division - play a strength of schedule based on the entire league not rotating divisions and conferences

I don't have a major issue with the schedule.  Team improvement should be based on the draft,  free agency,  and front office competence,  not the giants having a much easier schedule than the eagles.  They get the last place team in the two NFC divisions where the eagles get the first place teams.  That's pretty fair to me.
